Greetings!

We are just days away from kicking off the 2010-2011 Membership Year, and already there are a lot of events and opportunities that await you and your troop.  It's going to be a great Girl Scout year!  Thank you so much for all that you do.

Girl Scouts of Historic Georgia Staff

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, JULIETTE!

You and your troop are invited to join us for all or part of a weekend full of celebrations: the 100th Anniversary of our Girl Guide sisters, Juliette Low's 150th Birthday and the kick-off to our Girl Scout Centennial!

SATURDAY, OCTOBER 30, 2010:
  • Birthday Block Party (10:00 AM - 3:00 PM) Crafts, service projects, fashion shows and other activities will help Girl Scouts earn some of GSHG's Council's Own badges and patches. Cost is $5.00 per person and includes event patch for girls.

  • Discover Savannah (11:00 AM) Board a trolley at First Headquarters (FHQ) and work on one of our Council's Own badges as you tour historic Savannah. Cost is $15.00 per person and includes girl recognition.

  • Savannah Safari (1:00 PM) Beginning at FHQ, explore Savannah and look for animals in the architecture as girls work on another Council's Own badge. Cost is $5.00 per person and includes girl recognition.

  • Masquerade Birthday Ball (7:00 - 10:00 PM) Dance the night away as anyone you wish to be at our Magestic Ballroom at Camp Low! Learn some "new" dances and have some old-fashioned fun.  Cost is $10.00 per person and includes event patch for girls.
SUNDAY, OCTOBER 31, 2010:

Relighting Ceremony (1:00 PM) Join us for this unforgettable event as we link the past, present and future as well as Girl Guides and Scouts around the world!  Juliette Low's niece, the first Girl Scout, originally lit the Flame of Friendship at First Headquarters in 1963. With the help of our GSHG girls who recently attended the Girl Guide Centenary Camp in England and some very special guests, this Perpetual Flame will be relit.  This flame will then be passed on in the hopes that each Girl Scout in the United States will have this flame passed to her before March 12, 2012.  Cost is FREE and includes event patch for girls who register by the deadline.

Registration forms are available at www.gshg.org and should be turned in to your local Girl Scout service center.
RECYCLE AND REUSE

During the weekend of June 23-25, 2010, members of the GSHG staff along with many volunteers, deconstructed a building at the Strathmore Estates in Savannah.  Not only did the trusses seen below avoid a trip to a landfill, but today, 21 of them are now part of the pavilion built at the Girl Scout Service Center in Athens, Georgia.  About 25 local volunteers in the Athens area worked hard to put these trusses in place for their next 60 years of service.  Congratulations to everyone on a job well done!
