The company had a humble beginning led by IIT Kharagpur and IIT Madras Alumnus Pawan Chandana and Bharath Daka respectively in 2018 with seed funding from Mukesh Bansal, the founder of Myntra. Vikram-S lifted off at 11.30am (06:00 GMT) on Friday from the Satish Dhawan Space Centre in Sriharikota, an island off the coast of southern Andhra Pradesh state, as part of a mission named Prarambh (the beginning).
Prarambh and Aarambh are both Hindi words that mean 'beginning' or 'start'. The only difference between them is that 'prarambh' is written in its original form, while 'aarambh' is the anglicized version of the word. However, both words are commonly used interchangeably and convey the same meaning.
