Subramanya is another name for Lord Murugan, the elder son of Lord Shiva and Goddess Parvati and the brother of Lord Ganesha. Sri Subramanya Ashtakam (also called Swaminatha Karavalambam) is an octet that praises Lord Subramanya. It was composed by Sri Adi Shankaracharya. Shri Subramanya Ashtakam is recited to get rid of all present and past birth sins. Subramanya is usually worshipped on Tuesdays and Sundays.
