You get to create your character before anything else, and I want to point out how refreshingly open it is. You can choose your gender, but clothes and all body customisation options are open for you to use regardless of your choice. I was surprised to see this level of freedom in character creation, but it makes sense because you can truly create your own unique persona to share with the world through videos.
Youtubers Life 2 perfectly encapsulates the grind of growing a channel on Youtube without the stress that comes with it in real life. Side activities and subscriber growth keep you coming back, but the game feels like more effort than it should at times.
Youtubers Life is a life simulation game with business simulation elements, and influences from the Game Dev Tycoon and The Sims video games.[1] The player has to manage a character trying to build a career as a YouTube personality.[2] In addition to managing the creation of videos for their channel, the player must also manage the character's education and social life.[1][2] As the character develops, the player also must manage the character's employees and growing content network. Opportunities to create videos for friends, creating videos through advertising agreements, and the revenue generated by each video's ads enable the character to purchase upgrades to their equipment and housing, and access resources to level up their character's skills.[2]
Youtubers Life was developed by U-Play online, an independent entertainment company based in Barcelona, Spain.[3] The game was greenlit through Steam Greenlight in 2015,[4] and released into Steam Early Access, for Microsoft Windows and OS X, on 18 May 2016.[5][3]
Blair is the owner of Player 1, the city's video game store found in DownTown. She doesn't really know what to do with her life, but she discovered she has a born talent as a monster hunter. She is available as one of the characters to marry. If you divorce and she hates you, you can use the memory eraser on her, so she forgets about it. Downside, she forgets you too.
She was born in NewTube City and was raised by her aunt, Ellen. She is a huge fan of video games and, although she would love to work with her true passion, she still doesn't know what it is. She will dabble in the Youtuber, music and gaming worlds, until you and a ghost help her discover her true passion is hunting monster. She is currently Raven's roommate.
She is cold, distant, a little impatient with people, and can sometimes be a bit rude. She is only nice to her friends Clara and Edgar. She doesn't like innocent and happy things, such as stuffed animals or balloons, and that's why she doesn't get along very well with her cousin Joy.
Adam is the owner of the tech store name Leet Point. He spends his time there and usually goes to AFK or Spicy ren after work, he is independent, self-confident and extremely intelligent and has a great solution for all of this customers. His mother secretly works behind the red door in the back of his store fighting hackers, but you cannot go in until you are on friendship level 4 when you speak to him he messages you on Instalife saying to come in his store to see inside his basement. His two friends Blair and Edgar are his only friends until you become his friend sooner or later his girlfriend if you get to friendship level 6. He hates Robin from AFK because he always brings figurines in his store and thinks he is a craftsman... Adam thinks Robin looks like he escaped from 1994.
I say attempt, because the core gameplay is engulfed by a symphony of awful design choices that drown out the noteworthy features. Youtubers Life has you select music, food, or video game streamer, then plants you at home to begin a career of balancing producing videos, studying, maintaining a social life, and working to afford newly released and popularly trending video games, systems, and computer upgrades. Youtubers Life is a life Simulation Game developed by the Spanish studio U-Play Online. It was released for PC through Steam on May 18th, 2016, and was then ported to iOS on September 22nd, 2016. Later on, an Updated Re-release Youtubers Life: OMG Edition was launched on November 20th, 2018 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and Nintendo Switch as well. On October 19th, a sequel was released.
The main character is the #1 YouTuber in the world and then narrates his/her humble beginnings. With business simulations, your character has to become the most viewed YouTuber in the world, while also taking care of their social life and education.
During the game, you start your career creating videos, editing them, and posting them on YouTube to earn money, but also have to study, take care of friends to have collaborators, and meet other YouTubers. Then, you can progress to your own apartment, hire an employee, create videos under contract with other companies, and create your own network.
Tropes present in this game:
- Bland-Name Product: Crops up plenty of times as expected for an indie game. For instance, you can order games like Warbanner 30,000 Dawn of or Half-Lie 2 from an "Amazing-on" website, or buy furniture for your room from "IDEA". YouTube itself is actually titled "U-Tube" within the game.
- Catching Some Z's: Your character sleeping is portrayed in this manner.
- Character Customization: Since the game is all about letting the player live out the fantasy of becoming a top YouTuber, it features reasonably extensive customization with few presets.
- An Entrepreneur Is You: A very specific and limited type of entrepreneur, to be sure, but the game nevertheless earnestly tries to simulate the process of making videos and investing any proceeds into more things to make your videos about, and upgrading your computer and workstation to improve each video's quality.
- There Are No Bedsheets: When going to sleep, your character simply lies down on top of the blanket fully clothed; not even taking the glasses off if they were created with them on by default.
- World of Jerkass: The sequel, hoo boy. Multiple characters will insult you for no good reason.
- You Have Researched Breathing: In an attempt to add progression to what would otherwise be a straightforward set of mechanics, the player is initially restricted to 1-2 types of videos about a topic, and unlocks the ability to do others with talent points. For instance, gaming YouTubers begin with pure "gameplay" videos as their only option; while it's reasonable a first-time channel won't be able to do collabs or speedruns, the ability to do first impressions, walkthroughs, and reviews is also restricted at first.Jim Sterling: You do not need to have talent to make video game reviews! I'm proof of that!
- Likewise, the ability to do gestures like waving hello also gets unlocked throughout the game.
