Its first vice-chancellor, Mafizuddin Ahmed (PhD in chemistry, Penn State) took up office on 24 September 1970. The first group of students, a total of 150, were enrolled in four departments: Economics, Geography, Mathematics, and Statistics. Its formal inauguration was delayed until 12 January 1971, when the university was launched by Rear Admiral S. M. Ahsan, the chancellor.[4]
The teachers-student centre has the prime role in improving the relationship between the teachers and the students of the campus. It is a cultural hub for the university. Cultural groups usually perform drama and cultural programmes at Muktomoncho. Shaptam Chayamancha is a great attraction for students.[51]

On July 17, a female student filed a complaint after five students harassed, filmed and attempted to rape her at Chittagong University. Two days went by before a written complaint was accepted. After the authorities failed to take appropriate action, protests erupted at the university. Students and teachers spoke in the media about how such incidents had occurred before on campus, but the authorities did not take the complaints into account. In previous cases, the abusers had not been punished even after being identified. In fact, they continued to receive the patronage of powerful parties and university authorities.
The mindset of the authorities became clear when, at an online discussion, CU Assistant Proctor Shahidul Alam said the place where the girl was attacked was "secluded." The presenter had to remind him that the Jamal Nazrul Islam Science Laboratory was near this location, so why should a female student not be able to go there? How can the hope of redress be anything but a distant possibility, when the person in charge of ensuring security is the one issuing separate rules for women and placing the blame on the victims?
When a vice-chancellor expresses the opinion that a woman's only reason for studying at university is to eventually get married, then the word "university" is thrown into doubt altogether. By segregating female students, limiting their freedom of movement, taunting them and more, universities are being established as abuser-friendly, not student-friendly. This attitude flourishes as a result of the apathy towards implementing the High Court's guidelines (2009) on creating sexual harassment-free educational and work environments.
It is crucial that steps are taken to ensure that all university members are aware of these guidelines. This is far from the case. In fact, if you ask any student if they know where and to whom at university should they go if they face sexual harassment, almost 100 percent will respond with "no".
The aim of the present study was to assess consumption and attitudes towards pornography and their associated factors among Bangladesh undergraduate university students. Results showed that nearly three-quarters of students consumed pornography at least once in their lifetime (72%). The overall pornography consumption rate was therefore less than reported in studies from India (80%; Das 2013), Sweden (98%; Donevan and Mattebo 2017), and Australia (87%; Lim et al. 2017), but greater than the one previous study in Bangladesh (42%; Chowdhury et al. 2018). These differing results are most likely due to different methods, criteria, and sample studied. For instance, the present study recruited undergraduate university students whereas other studies used different populations. The sample in the present study is also more likely to have had more (i) accessible, affordable internet services compared to the previous study in Bangladesh and (ii) familiarity and expertise with accessing the internet compared to those in more rural populations.
The present study is now without its limitations. The present study was cross-sectional in design and therefore cannot provide an indication of causality. In order to remedy this, longitudinal investigations of pornography consumption are needed to assess causal relations between the assessed variables. The sample size was also modest, and the data were self-report (and open to well-known biases such as memory recall and social desirability). The response rate (62.6%) while arguably good still meant that approximately one-third of those individuals approached did not participate. Reasons for non-participation are unknown but this could have affected the results. Future research should therefore comprise larger samples and try to increase participation rates. Furthermore, the present study was conducted at the only university near the capital of Bangladesh and therefore generalizability to other university student samples (and other types of populations) in the country (and other countries) may be limited. Consequently, future research should use more representative samples in both Bangladesh and other countries.
