All,

I'm the happy owner (since new) of a '97 Trophy triple, and as anyone
who owns one of these knows - it's a fine machine; but lacks any sort
of 'bark' from the OEM mufflers. I've done a bit of searching on the
net, and found only one 'reputable' manufacturer who claims to offer
an option to the originals (Thunderbike in NZ).

Anyone out there know of any other options? For reference, I am not
willing to do away with my panniers, so some of the options mentioned
elsewhere won't work for me.

Thanks in advance!

Trident makes pipes for the old T3s:

http://www.trident-exhausts.co.uk/page-silencers_early-triples.php

I have one of their stubby pipes on my Sprint RS and quite like it, and someone on the T3 forum just bought a set:

http://www.triumphrat.net/t3-sport-touring-forum/146827-trident-end-cans.html

I'm pretty sure there was a recent discussion there about all of the current options as well.

Cheers,

Ron-

Glad to see the forum come to life again. As I recall there was a decent
manufacturer in Australia or New Zealand that made some great slip ons --
but only for a few years (95-99 or so). I'm getting too old to remember the
exact name. If it comes to me I'll get back with you.

All,

Thanks in advance!

There are almost no options that I know of.
Perhaps Staintune still have a few sets in stock...pricey,but awesome, used market?

There was a Texas maker.....lesser quality, very loud...too loud really. No longer made...Used market?
Unless someone over the pond has someone new....your options are very limited. You could just punch out the baffles.
I do not believe anyone still makes cans for these models. They didn't 5 years ago.
Good luck.

Staintune, the Australian manufacturer, stopped making pipes for the T3s long, long ago.

D&D is the Texas company known for questionable fit and finish and unquestionable decibel levels. They still make pipes for the T-bird and TBS, and the 3-into-3 all on one side they do for the TBS really is gorgeous. Their pipes for the sport/touring T3s were generic and insanely loud, though, so probably not worth contacting even if they have a few left in the warehouse.

Thunderbike is the New Zealand company that still makes stainless performance mufflers for Trophies, but they are unsure whether they fit pre-'99 bikes (and they've been unsure for at least 3 years). Bit of a gamble at $831 US.

A couple of people on the Triumph RAT forum recently mentioned installing Laser exhausts, but I think they were eBay leftovers as they're not listed on Laser's site.

As I said before, I would be inclined to go with Trident from the UK. They specialize in Triumph, and Peter Sorrell, the owner, is really good with both pre- and post-sale support.

That's all I can think of right now, aside from the long-discontinued Sebring and Yoshimura 3->1 race pipes that wouldn't work with the bags anyway...

Cheers,
-Kit

i had a 96 1200 trophy that i rode the 2003 iron butt rally on, (the biggest trophy a man can have between his legs, btw), and , iirc, there was an article in the magpie archives about drilling out the cans.  i forget the size of the "metal" hole saw bit required, and a long drill bit extender from sears was required but it did add a little bit to the barkl

i could look up the bit and extender if you want me too, it is just too early now, (damn siamese cat).

Thanks all for the responses. Peter, thanks for the offer of info on
the bit and extender; but I'll pass on this approach.
