I'm by no means a genius at this stuff but I run my pc at 3840 x 2160 and my launcher was so tiny and google and support were no help I found this: right click the launcher and go to settings, there should be a tab for compatibility..
Yesterday, SWTOR was fine. This morning I downloaded the PTS and logged in fine. Now, I am trying to get back into SWTOR and am having an issue with the launcher. As soon as it launches it says it is searching for a new version of the launcher (or whatever the exact text is). It then shuts down, relaunches, and searches again. It then quickly shuts down, relaunches, and does it again. This is going on and on and on in an endless loop. It seems that downloading the PTS has broken my launcher.
I was wondering if anyone knows how to fix the eternal "the launcher is being updated" error? I played the game fine earlier today and after the downtime it is staying stuck on the launcher update screen. No matter how long I wait. I have tried reading online and I have had the same problem once before and then it fixed itself with the "LauncherRepairUtilityD2020.0.2" program, however this time even that doesn't help.
I just wanted to share the solution to a problem I've been having last couple of times I install SWTOR. All those launcher repair tools and stuff wasn't helping and if you're reading this, I assume you've done some research as well before getting here.
Your launcher will update itself normally and you will be able to login normally. The launcher will activate the BitRaider to download the game and the current patch; however, the BitRaider don't always work (it might be your firewall, operational system, whatever) and you can leave the launcher forever and it never actually start the download (you can tell if it's downloading or not by the download speed that should be on display at the bottom of the launcher).
Solutions (All cases are possible, so don't straight up discard them just because some of them didn't work for me. And they all assume that you have your game launcher close, so start doing that before trying this):
Save the file and delete the BitRaider, Movie and Asset folders then start the launcher (if you just installed the game, it should only have the BitRaider folder). THIS is the solution that worked out for me and solve any problems that your firewall or anti-virus have with BitRaider. Pay attention to how each command looks like in the file, to make sure the syntax is correct.
downloaded SWTOR from the official website and went through the installation process for my new PC. After installation and updates pressing the play button has no effect. Button will kind of fade out and nothing will load. Tried fixes such as having the launcher run as administrator and even downloaded the alder lake intel launcher patch and still nothing. any ideas?
hi there, whenever possible , always read the sticky threads, like this one: -upcoming-update-of-the-game-launcher/ .... And also be sure to see the more specific 'Dev Tracker' posts from BioWare , like this other one here: -upcoming-update-of-the-game-launcher/page/10/#comment-9725230
If that ^ thread doesn't help , then maybe try this link here: -Discussion-Technical/bd-p/star-wars-the-old-republic-en ...and/or try sending an Email to: sup...@swtor.com (with as many details, computer specs, crash-logs, screenshots, anti-virus programs, etc. etc. as you can provide )
Did this and the issue still persists. this new launcher is screwed up royally. doesn't even download the full game assets needed to play. 36 gigs is NOT the full game download and i have compared it to an old installation. antivirus isn't this issue either. Bioware needs to address this rather than gives us some invalid workarounds that don't work. this is making all of us very angry.
I expected specific help not wall of text. But i read it. I tried run launcher with administrator, did that thing with antivirus, delete bitraider and even now i unistalled whole game. Still the same .. can't log in and now shame i unistalled everything because i can't even start patching. This is madness and so unfortunate because i have now free 5 days starting tomorrow and can't play.
Starting next week (Monday 19th September 2022) the studio will release an update to the game launcher for a small pre-selected number of players for testing. If tests go well, everyone else will get their non-Steam launchers updated to allow them to start benefiting from the new tech.
It looks like the new game launcher for SWTOR will be fully rolled out on October 4th! If you have download the game from SWTOR.com, your new launcher will look the same, but should be faster and more stable when downloading new updates. However, if you have any issues, follow the instructions below to report your problem. This will not affect you if you are playing through Steam.
We have wrapped testing for the new launcher and are ready to go live! The new launcher will be rolling out beginning October 4th. We will be releasing the new launcher in phases throughout the week to also verify all the supporting systems are working properly. We should have it fully released by the end of the week.
The error rate during testing was less than half a percent; however, the team has worked on implementing fixes throughout testing to ensure that players do not run into the same issues. Please understand with a larger number of players now able to download the new launcher, it is possible some players may get into a bad state. If you are someone who encounters an error, please do the following so we can troubleshoot and assist you:
Try it without the swtor_fix.exe first. Also that pastebin seems to be a stripped down version of the original launcher script here:
github.com aljen/swtor_fix/blob/master/launcher.sh#! /bin/bash# All cudo's goes towards the original script! The added script below is purely cosmetic in comparison (in that the new part only automates a previously manual step).unset OPTIMUS_PREFIX# In case of an optimus-enabled laptop, the use of primusrun is recommended over optirun.# Don't uncomment this line in any other case.# OPTIMUS_PREFIX=" primusrun"### BELOW HAS BEEN ADDED TO TURN OFF BIT RUNNER AND SUPPORT PLAYONLINUX ####Regardless of where our launcher is located, lets automatically find it and use it! Go to swtor.com and enter in your username and password, and leave the security key blank. Press log in. On the next page click "Lost your security key?" and you will be given instructions to login with a one time password and remove the key. You only need access to the email account attached to your SWTOR Account. More security key info
Maybe there are additional launcher executables that run for Origin or subscriptions, that vorpX is mistakenly trying to hook first instead of the actual swtor.exe. The vorpX config app has an Excluded Programs list for this reason. Maybe try adding any additional exes you find in the games install directory to the vorpX excluded list, and click apply.
In my swtor directory I see launcher.exe, launcherDiag.exe, and launcherRestartMsg.exe. In my case it was enough that launcher.exe is among the vorpX excluded list, but it might be safer to add any and all others that you might find there.
I wanted to play SWTOR with some friends, but its a huge game, I downloaded all day and it's at about 90% percent at the minimum download, I think if I close the launcher it will reset, but if I put it in sleep mode for the night will it resume properly in the morning?
