Ideas to discuss (the following were tabled last year):
· Tristan in Translation
The popular appeal of the Tristan story has spurred over the years a number of translations, both ancient and modern. This session offers a forum for discussing the role in disseminating the story and enhancing the literature as translations affect continuations of the various incomplete Tristans and bring the story into other national traditions.
· Tristan in Film
Tristan has been depicted in films in various ways, and the efforts reflect shifting perspectives on the story and its characters. In these films the images and narratives both connect and diverge from the traditions in literature to renew the power of the story and its relevance for modern audiences.
