Fresh off a
famous Carling Cup victory over Chelsea in penalties last week,
Burnley FC have signed a partnership agreement to develop youth players with
Next Level Academy which includes the re-branding of the current Cary RailHawks U23s into the 'Cary Clarets'.
The agreement is part of an initial two-year deal aimed at developing Academy-based and first team players for Burnley FC.
In return, Burnley FC has pledged to provide full backing to the Cary
Clarets in terms of aiding youth development, sharing training methods
and helping to establish the Cary brand. The partnership follows a
successful tour to the United States in the summer of 2008, when
Burnley played,
and lost to, the U23 side at WakeMed Soccer Park during their preseason.
Burnley FC Operational Director Brendan Flood said: "We are delighted
to welcome Cary as a club partner. The seeds of this burgeoning
relationship were sown last summer and there is no doubt that Cary has
an exceptional college set-up in the United States that we can
hopefully tap into. The standard of players their Academy produces is
high and we hope that working with Cary we can help both organizations
to prosper."
RailHawks fans will remember that the Cary RailHawks U23s were never
the formal property of Triangle Professional Soccer or the Carolina
RailHawks, but rather the result of the
Good For the Game partnership
between the RailHawks, CASL, and Next Level Academy. NLA is run by
former RailHawks' assistant coach Damon Nahas and former RailHawks'
head coach Scott Schweitzer is a member of Next Level's staff.
Current RailHawks Owner/President Brian Wellman has said in the past
that pursuing a partnership with a foreign club remains a priority for
the team, but the team had no immediate comment today when contacted in
regards to how this partnership with Next Level Academy may boost or
preclude their partnership discussions with Burnley.
