Having accepted writing songs inspired by specific moments of her life, she has been criticized by both religious and gay sectors. Two of her songs have been labeled as being homophobic and promoting homosexuality. MTV mentioned criticism suggesting that she was using bi-curiosity as a way to sell records.
 After dating for a little more than a year, the couple got engaged while holidaying in India. They married in October 2010 in a traditional Hindu ceremony near the Ranthambhore tiger sanctuary in Rajasthan, the same location where the English actor/comedian had proposed.
