It's quiz time!!!

Attached is part of a very important work of a famous western classical musician. You have to identify the musician and also tell why this work is famous. Clues in the photo. Please reply to me if you find the answer so as not to ruin it for others.

A lot of answers and all correct, at least partially...

The composer is J.S.Bach and it's a page from his 'Art of fugue'. The rectangle points at four notes which are B-A-C-B flat and B-flat in Germany has historically been referred to as H. So Bach had encoded his name in the melody. It's also his last work. He died in the  middle of it and the page attached is the last he ever wrote. That's why it's famous.
