I upgraded the Y limit switch mounting last night. Here is the thingy....

I decided to give up a little bit of Y travel so that I never have to worry about hitting the glass clamps or mess with trying to avoid them.Full print area is now set to X300, Y280, Z365. There is enough room to allow possibly 10mm give or take more of Z, but I really don't need it. I also may want to make my ending print G-code script pull the Z up a little before it moves the bed to the print removal position. This way you won't get a drag line if the top of the part is flat.

I should be about ready to start printing again. I have everything lined up and the bed adjusted etc.

When you were messing with the Y carriage, did you notice any play (in the X direction)?  There is a small amount on mine, and I think it is affecting the prints.  I tried to get the aluminum heat spreader  off, but the 4 screws will not budge (after being heated for 4 years).  Even if I managed to remove the spreader, I'm not sure what to look for, or how to adjust the SIMO if that is where the play is.

You will have to drill a couple holes in your top plate to access the adjustment. I did drill these holes as part of my upgrade process, but I have not needed to do the adjustment yet. Attached are a couple pics and also the stl for a drill jig you can print. I did not print the jig. I just measured it and then measured and marked the holes. If your not going to disassemble the top plate you will have to get crafty to make sure no shavings get in your Y parts. I used paper and packing tape and was very careful. You also have to limit your drill distance so when it breaks through you don't accidentally hit your SIMO.
