Love for Rocky the little rabbit

Romans 5:8..God shows his love for us in that while we were still sinners, Christ died for us.
Last week during a trip to Long Island, New York for a cousin’s wedding, I got an opportunity to stay over at a friends place. My friend has a pet rabbit named “Rocky.” Having never owned a pet animal, I was amazed to see the affection and love that my friend’s family bestowed upon that little animal. They exhibited their love by petting the rabbit, feeding it and cuddling with it throughout the day, but the moment they left the animal down on the floor it would scurry away to a place away from my friend and his family. Also the rabbit was shedding a lot of hair and as they cuddled the rabbit its hair came over my friends clothes. Additionally, the shedding hair from the rabbit started sticking to my clothes too; which I was constantly trying to cleanup.
This interesting relationship reminded me of our own relationship with God. Too many times even though God tries to envelop his love around us, we seem to scurry away from His presence. My friend’s love for the animal was so selfless, that he did not demand anything in return from the rabbit for his expression of love, as he cuddled it, fed it and took care of its needs. Romans 5:8 in the Bible reminds us that God’s love for us is selfless. God loves us, no matter what we are and where we are in our relationship with Him. Just like the shedding hair started sticking to my clothes, I was reminded that when we experience the love of God in our life, it becomes clearly visible not only in our life but it starts overflowing and sticking into the lives of others around us, even if they do not like it.
So as you enter this first week of Lent, can I encourage you to focus on the love of God. So that as you experience God’s love, may others see its manifestation in your life and may this love begin to stick into theirs, so that they will get a glimpse of and glorify the one and only Almighty God we worship.
