Four years ago the citizens of District 2 were faced with some
enormous challenges. We had a hospital that had been mismanaged for
decades, county government's financial picture was dismal, our general
plan had not been comprehensively updated since 1973, the county had
just unsuccessfully sued the TPUD and we were all uncertain of what
the future might hold.
During this time I was campaigning for the Board of Supervisors and as
I went door to door many people asked me, "Are you sure that you want
this job?". I have to tell you that at times I began to question my
own logic in taking on such an enormous task. However, I always
replied with an answer that was hopeful because I knew the potential
of this community and how we have consistently overcome challenges
that we face together.
During this same time I also heard voices from county administration
that said "that can't be done" and "we don't have any choices" and
"we'll never be able to find the money to do that". You can't get
much more negative than that and the lack of vision associated with
those voices only reinforced my motivation to succeed.
Those negative voices turned out to be wrong. We saved a hospital, we
restored the county's bond rating, we moved forward with a nationally
recognized Community Forest program, we started a comprehensive update
of the General Plan and we are on the forefront of expansion of
broadband internet service.
Now, as I hope to enter the race for US Congress to make our voice
heard at the federal level,
I am once again hopeful that the sound decision making within
Trinity's District 2 will continue.
My support for my wife, Judy Morris, in the election for District 2
Supervisor would seem to be very personal. Despite the obvious
personal connection, I believe that Judy's business management
background, economic development experience within Trinity County and
her commitment to insuring that all voices are heard, truly make her
the best candidate to continue the work that we've achieved together
over the past 3 1/2 years.
On June 3rd please do you part and vote in the upcoming election.
Let the past be your guide. Our future is counting on it.
