to Trinity Bellwoods Community Association
Hello everyone –

The last year has seen the Trinity Bellwoods Community Association participate in important initiatives across our community. We've developed an excellent relationship with city councillor Mike Layton, encouraged responsible development and made our voice heard in some constructive ways when it came to dealing with area issues.

Now it's time for members of the community to elect a new executive. Having worked as TBCA co-chair for the last year, I'm planning to pass the group's leadership on to another deserving community member as I concentrate on a book that's due in June 2012. Other positions in the Association also are open. To quote minutes' secretary Ross Burnett's email last year:
"If these gaps cannot be filled, the group will cease to operate and we as a community will lose our voice at the City."

Please consider filling a role with the TBCA over the next year. We've come a long way, but much more work needs to be done. We need to elevate the TBCA's profile, sign up more members and assist in the guidance of responsible development in the Bellwoods area.

Executive election meeting
Date: Monday, Oct. 24
Location: Trinity Community Recreation Centre, 155 Crawford, 2nd floor
Time: 7 p.m.

Now, a little bit about each of the executive positions:

1. TBCA chair
(Currently held jointly by Chris Shulgan and Joshua Shang).
The chair runs meetings and acts in general as the TBCA's representative.

2. Treasurer
(Currently held by Derek Chadbourne)
Treasurer manages the TBCA's finances.

3. Minutes Secretary
(Currently held by Ross Burnett)
Minutes secretary takes notes at each monthly TBCA meeting and distributes the minutes to the membership.

4. Membership Secretary
(Currently held by Liz Magner)
The membership secretary assists in the recruitment of new members and works to elevate the group's profile.

5. Media secretary
(A new position I'm proposing)
Someone who manages the TBCA's media presence with web sites and social networking sites.

6. Members-at-Large
(Current members-at-large are Debbie Rix, Sue Campbell, Mike Varey and Sandy Stagg.)
The members-at-large are community members with no fixed job with the TBCA, but who come to meetings and maintain a voting voice on the TBCA executive.

7. Liaisons
Finally, the TBCA needs liaisons to maintain relationships with CAMH and Metro Toronto Police. The police liaison, a role formerly filled by Liz Magner with impressive dedication and fortitude, attends 14 Division community meetings and keeps the TBCA informed about law-enforcement issues. Similarly, CAMH liaison was filled by Sue Campbell, who moved across the country earlier this year. Both liaison positions involve fascinating work about two valuable community institutions.

Please consider volunteering to fill one of the above roles!

Best,
Chris
