For some projectors, it is possible to find the model name and serial number in the menu by following the steps below. This is especially helpful if the projector's model name and serial number label is unreadable or not accessible.

The serial number is located on the bottom plate of the car audio unit. It is not directly accessible, as shown in the pictures below. Should you need to know the serial number, it is advised to have the car audio unit removed from the car stereo slot by a specialised installer.

The model name is normally found on the sticker located at the back of the TV, located on a label near the side input terminals, or engraved on the front panel of the TV. Please be aware that the model and serial numbers are different:

I've been wrestling with a mouse/track pad problem on my Vaio laptop (Win7, model nr. VPCSA4T9E, bought in Nov. 2012, in Denmark) and have been trying to get some help from the Sony website, preferably an email address for customer service.

When I'm asked to enter my serial number it keeps telling me it's wrong. I've checked both my Vaio Care on the laptop in question and turned it upside down and checked the sticker - same number in both places and still it says it's wrong!

I registered my laptop on Club Vaio through a link in the Vaio Care program back when I bought the laptop in question but is that the registration you mean? Other than that I haven't registered it anywhere apart from my insurance company and this site when I wanted to post my problem. Is there a specific site where you're supposed to register? All I got from the manual and/or Sony programmes was the Club Vaio link...

The serial number of my new vaio pro was not recognised yesterday or still this evening. There was a complete outage of the sony uk site earlier, so maybe there is a technical problem - but the entry box is highlighted in red even before it goes to the server.

Not only would it not recognise the machine, but Sony told me that it was normal! Aapparently cause it was a new model. This meant that a lot of instructions on setting up the machine could not be followed.

IT WAS AWFUL and most unexpected of Sony. I have purchased 6 Sony laptoops for the business in the last 3 years and I have done so because I expected them to take greater care in products and customer service.

The machine works fine and so does Vaio Care, except for the faulty mouse that prompted my quest to get in contact with Sony's customer service in the first place and I was able to use Vaio Care and make recovery discs etc.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who's a bit flabbergasted by the poor customer service.

Is there any site explains the meaning of these series number, and maybe has a list to compare between similar models. For now, I have to crawl a lot sites to figure out VPC = VAIO PC, EB is a series for certain setup like Intel chip, LED back light. BJ means the case is in black. However, I still can't find out the meaning to 64 and FX. Can the community advise? Thanks.

The Model Number is a combination of numbers used to identify a particular product, design, or manufacturer. In some cases, the design of two different products is almost indistinguishable, such as LinkBuds and LinkBuds S, and some of the sony headphones. So in these cases, the model number is used.

For the earbuds, you can find the model number either on the bottom, within, or behind the charging case. The model number for the earbuds is also present in the name, such as LinkBuds and LinkBuds S.

Unlike the model number, the serial number consists only of numbers, and these numbers can also be used to identify your Sony headphones or earbuds. You can find the serial number in the same place as the model number.

The Model Numbers in my OP are NOT "Sony internal reference codes" but the official SONY Model Numbers, which are unique and have NO ambiguity. It's EXACTLY how retailers refer to their camera. Whereas Model Names can be ambiguous especially when NOT using the official Model Name. For instance, using official Sony Model Names & Model Numbers, there's a:

The Apple Support KB article linked in my OP lists "Sony Alpha ILCE-7 III". This is neither a Sony Model Number nor Model Name but a mash up using PART of a Model Name and PART of a Model Number.

Apple should exclusively use Sony Model Number "ILCE-7M3" and NOT the pseudo mashup name used throughout the article. The practice of indexing by manufacture's official Model Number should not be foreign to Apple, as they follow this nomenclature themselves. E/G/ Apple has an "iPhone 12 Pro Max" when referring it by Model Name which is also used for informal use cases (i.e. "mainstream reviewers"). However, when it comes to formal use cases like release management & dealing with other companies engineering for interoperability & firmware (AT&T, Verizon) etc, Apple uses the Model Number "MGCT3LL/A" as it's unique & deciphers the specifics needed when dealing with interoperability (country of origin, carrier, configuration, etc).

Since "mainstream reviewers" don't use the official Sony Model Number in their video reviews, Apple's engineering, development, and support groups do NOT use the Sony Model Number? Is that what you're suggesting in your reply? Or does Apple choose NOT to use the Model Number because there weren't any photos on the internet that show the exact model number on the front of the camera? I'm just trying to understand your reply. FWIW, pictures of iPhone 12 Pro Max don NOT have "iPhone 12 Pro Max" nor MGCT3LL/A" on their pictures (including Apple's site). I'm not sure which retailers you're referring to who don't use the Sony Model Number, but here are screenshots of the 3 biggest camera retailers in the world. Note the red call outs.

Having purchased many Sony cameras online from these retailers & others, I assure you ONLY the Model Number is used when purchasing & dealing with support. Some like B&H, use a B&H Model Number (as they may bundle that Sony Model Number with various lenses as a package) but they are sure to list the EXACT Sony Model Number under "MFG #".

Large (public) U.S. tech companies who qualify & support each other's environments & equipment have Cooperative Support Agreements (CSA) in place that detail agreed upon standards. Like the model naming convention that will be used when publishing customer facing articles. These standards SHOULD be followed & reciprocated (as per most CSA's). Here's how Sony lists cameras supported for MacOS:

Note Sony Support's KB article, there's NO Ambiguity as to which version of MacOS they're referring to. Their KB Article follows Apple's naming convention: "macOS Big Sur (macOS 11)." More importantly note how Sony themselves refer to which of their cameras are supported for macOS Big Sur (macOS 11) ILCE-7M2, ILCE-7RM3, ILCE-9M2, etc.". Guess what those are? MODEL NUMBERS! The exact thing Apple does NOT use in their Support KB article. I am suggesting they should.

As for the remainder of your reply, you cite "Alpha ILCE-7 IV" and "ILCE 7R IV". Neither of which are Sony Model Numbers nor are they Sony Model Names. I assume you are referring to Sony Model Numbers ILCE-7M4 and ILCE-7RM4? If so, their official Sony Model Names are "Alpha 7 IV" and "Alpha 7R IV" respectively (I hyperlinked for reference which will take you directly to their respective product page on Sony's website). There you will see what the Model Numbers are for each (ILCE-7M4 and ILCE-7RM4 respectively). I'm not looking to burn you here by pointing out your reply does NOT contain a Sony Model Number nor Model Name. It's this type of ambiguity that is responsible for many questions posted one Apple's forums AND the exact reason I posted my question. I'm sure that your reply's frame of reference was based on Apple's KB article (which was linked in my OP and what the question was about).

Though I posted this question in "macOS Big Sur" community and Monterey which I did NOT ask about it. Nor did I ask about Apple's policy for retroactive support for RAW photos. But since you see to be familiar with it, can you please reply with a link to Apple's official support policy document that states "retroactive support for RAW photos will not be provided"? I can't seem to find it.

Apparently, on the Sony site, they refer to the Alpha 7 III also as the ILCE-7M3 and the Alpha 7 IV as the ILCE-7M4. These are likely Sony internal reference codes, do not appear on the left front of the camera body, and not how mainstream reviewers and retailers refer to these camera models.

Apple only provides the camera RAW support that Sony provides and the Alpha ILCE-7 IV is not present in Big Sur, or (presently) in Monterey RAW support. It is for the ILCE 7R IV. Apple does not provide retroactive camera RAW support to older versions of macOS.

Other than that, remember that the folks who answer here are doing so in their own time and with the benefit of their own knowledge, however limited it might be. So, rather than being argumentative, it might be better to engage positively in your search for assistance. After all, that lovely post, complete with screenshots, took time to create and has got you not one iota closer to resolving your issue. But here's something helpful: there is no 'support policy document that states "retroactive support for RAW photos will not be provided"?'. What does actually exist are the observations of folks who've been using these boards for years rather than a day or two.
