Use image.cumulativeCost() to compute a cost map where every pixel contains the total cost of the lowest cost path to the nearest source location. This process is useful in a variety of contexts such as habitat analysis (Adriaensen et al. 2003), watershed delineation (Melles et al. 2011) and image segmentation (Falcao et al. 2004). Call the cumulative cost function on an image in which each pixel represents the cost per meter to traverse it. Paths are computed through any of a pixel's eight neighbors. Required inputs include a source image, in which each non-zero pixel represents a potential source (or start of a path), and a maxDistance (in meters) over which to compute paths. The algorithm finds the cumulative cost of all paths less than maxPixels = maxDistance/scale in length, where scale is the pixel resolution, or scale of analysis in Earth Engine.

The result should look something like Figure 1, in which each output pixel represents the accumulated cost to the nearest source. Note that discontinuities can appear in places where the least cost path to the nearest source exceeds maxPixels in length.

Cost and schedule growth is a problem experienced by many types of projects in many fields of endeavor. Based on prior studies of cost growth in NASA and Department of Defense projects, this book identifies specific causes of cost growth associated with NASA Earth and space science missions and provides guidance on how NASA can overcome these specific problems.

The recommendations in this book focus on changes in NASA policies that would directly reduce or eliminate the cost growth of Earth and space science missions. Large cost growth is a concern for Earth and space science missions, and it can be a concern for other missions as well. If the cost growth is large enough, it can create liquidity problems for NASA's Science Mission Directorate that in turn cause cost profile changes and development delays that amplify the overall cost growth for other concurrent and/or pending missions. Addressing cost growth through the allocation of artificially high reserves is an inefficient use of resources because it unnecessarily diminishes the portfolio of planned flights. The most efficient use of resources is to establish realistic budgets and reserves and effective management processes that maximize the likelihood that mission costs will not exceed reserves. NASA is already taking action to reduce cost growth; additional steps, as recommended herein, will help improve NASA's mission planning process and achieve the goal of ensuring frequent mission opportunities for NASA Earth and space science.

When Puro.earth was founded in 2019, there was no crediting program for engineered carbon removal. This gave us a blank slate to define a value proposition that is designed to enable the growth of the nascent carbon removal market while emphasizing simplicity, cost-efficiency, and transparency. Under the Puro Standard, we issue CO2 Removal Certificates, CORCs, that are sold in the carbon markets through third-party marketplaces or directly by our suppliers.

This study demonstrates the cost-effectiveness of using satellite imagery to assess burned areas and prioritize response measures after a wildfire; it shows that, by using Landsat imagery, federal agencies can save up to $7.7 million per year in post-fire costs.

We use a value of information (VOI) approach to demonstrate the cost effectiveness of using satellite imagery as part of Burn Area Emergency Response (BAER), a federal program that identifies imminent post-wildfire threats to human life and safety, property, and critical natural or cultural resources. We compare the costs associated with the production of a Burn Area Reflectance Classification (BARC) map and implementation of a BAER response when imagery from satellites (either Landsat or a commercial satellite) is available to the costs of BARC map production and BAER response when the BAER team relies on information collected solely by aerial reconnaissance. The case study includes two evaluations with and without BARC products: (a) costs and cost savings for a specific wildfire incident request and (b) costs and cost savings of a multi-incident BARC map production program. In both cases, satellite imagery, and in particular, Landsat is the most cost-effective way to input burn severity information into the BAER program, with cost savings of up to $35 million over a five-year period.

You cannot overlook the site, as the foundations of your home must be built well. This is not an area in which you should consider cutting costs. Your home needs to be structurally sound.

Large quantities of windows and doors in your home can also increase costs. However, increasing the size of a window will often have a lesser impact on the cost. (Unless the size increase affects the frame or glass thickness).

Smaller homes (although more sustainable) frequently work out more expensive per m2. As there are many one-off costs for a home. Such as service connections, kitchens etc. which are required whether your home is 10 squares, 20 squares or larger.

However, it is also important to remember designs with lots of small sections of wall (e.g. columns) will increase the overall cost. This is because there are lots of rammed earth over-fills, which take longer to build.

Wall height can also increase costs. Walls over 3m high are more expensive, due to extra time requirements. Set up, equipment, scaffolding and elevating the soil mix to build a wall above the standard height all add time and therefore money to your project.
