Burgerkill Dua Sisi Repacked: A Celebration of Indonesian Metal
Burgerkill is one of the most influential and successful metal bands in Indonesia. Formed in 1995 in Bandung, the band has released six albums and won several awards, including the Metal Hammer Golden Gods Awards for Metal as F*ck category in 2013. Burgerkill's music combines elements of hardcore, thrash, death, and groove metal, with lyrics that reflect social issues, personal struggles, and political criticism.
In 2004, Burgerkill reissued their debut album, Dua Sisi, which was originally released in 2000 under a local indie label, Riotic Record. The repackaged version was made to celebrate the fourth anniversary of the album and to introduce it to a new generation of metal fans. Dua Sisi (which means Two Sides in English) showcases Burgerkill's early sound, which was heavily influenced by old-school hardcore bands such as Youth of Today, Minor Threat, Gorilla Biscuits, and 7 Seconds. The album features 12 tracks of fast and aggressive hardcore punk with catchy riffs and energetic vocals. Some of the songs also incorporate elements of ska, rap, and metalcore.
Some of the highlights of the album are "Revolt!", "Offered Sucks", "My Self", and "Blank Proudness". "Revolt!" is the opening track and the first single of the album, which was also included in a various artist compilation album called Masaindahbangetsekalipisan. The song is a call to action against oppression and injustice, with lyrics such as "We're not gonna take this shit anymore / We're not gonna be your fucking slaves / We're not gonna be your fucking tools / We're gonna fight for our rights". "Offered Sucks" and "My Self" are two other singles that were also featured in another compilation album called Breathless. Both songs deal with the theme of self-identity and self-respect, with catchy choruses and powerful riffs. "Blank Proudness" is another song that expresses Burgerkill's attitude and philosophy, with lyrics such as "We don't need your fucking labels / We don't need your fucking rules / We don't need your fucking standards / We have our own proudness".
Dua Sisi is a landmark album in the history of Indonesian metal scene, as it introduced Burgerkill to a wider audience and established them as one of the leading bands in the genre. The album also influenced many other bands that followed their footsteps, such as Jasad, Forgotten, Dead Squad, and Revenge The Fate. Dua Sisi repacked is a tribute to Burgerkill's roots and a testament to their longevity and relevance in the metal world.
