I am a PM from Hewlett-Packard and we are working through our upgrade
to SDL TRIDION 2011 SP1 in which we are running into the issue of
PowerTools compatibility and looking forward to the community
completion of this tool.

From the above link and from this group post, I see the Component
Synchronizer is considered a high priority and being worked upon
between the community and there now seems to be x2 spin-offs for this
tool. What is the goal between the tools and differences?

Hello Ross,

I understand we (the PowerTools group) created the 2nd version of ComponentSynchronizer to work on better front-end integration. We'll eventually merge both version into a single code branch. The next steps would be to complete the Core Service part to complete the tool's functionality.

We're aiming for a 2012 Q2 release, but this depends on resources (we've found the Tridion expertise, it's the availability that seems hard to come by!). The individual developers may have more details to add code-wise.

If the tools are causing an issue in one of your environments, by all means un-comment the System.Config changes to "disable" them. We've seen an issue with the message center and earlier releases of SDL Tridion 2011 (GA or Hotfix Rollup), but the PowerTools should run with SP1. Let us know if you've run across specific issues and if members of your team are are available/free to participate in this open source project, we could at least use help submitting issues on: http://code.google.com/p/tridion-2011-power-tools/. Development work, wiki updates, requirements, etc always welcome--but this of course depends on the individual and/or organization.

We'd be interested in hearing your team's thoughts and feedback on the tools so far. Were you looking for ComponentSynchronizer's functionality specifically?

Thanks kindly,
Alvin
