EDIT 7/29:  we are rescheduling the transition clinic to another day (TBD) to allow more interested people to attend.  I will contact those who indicated interest directly with this update.

EDIT 7/19:  participants can attend just one or both of the clinics as folks prefer.  If you respond "yes" or "maybe" please indicate whether you will be attending the swim clinic, transition clinic, or both!

Hi Everyone,

On Saturday July 30th, in lieu of our regular weekend training we'll be having a clinic Double Feature:

  • 7:00 to 8:00 AM -- Swim Clinic #2 with Andy Gilbert
  • 8:30 to 10:00 AM -- Transition clinic and Relay race! -- POSTPONED (date TBD)

SWIM CLINIC:

Date and Time Saturday 7/30 from 7:00-8:00 am.

Location:  Westbrook Community Center Davan indoor pool.  This will be a private rental so the entire pool will be available for our use.  (Note, entrance to the pool this time will be from the back of the building due to work on the floors that will be happening at that time -- previously we used the side entrance.)

Instructor.  Once again, our instructor will be fellow TRIDEXXer, Andy Gilbert, who has many years of experience coaching and teaching swimming.   Andy did an excellent job at our first clinic and we're excited to have him volunteering again at our second session!

Format:  Similar to the first session, the clinic will be based on the specific needs/interests of the participants, and will aim to follow-on and build on skills developed during the first clinic.  In general, it will be targeted towards beginner and intermediate level swimmers, and will include a mix of group practice and 1x1 sessions with individual feedback from Andy.    Participants will leave with concepts and/or drills to focus on in on-going individual practice.  This time Andy will also be doing video analysis of everyone's stroke, which is huge help in understanding what your technique really looks like in the water!

Cost:  $6 per person to cover the pool rental fee.  The fee can be paid (cash only please) on the day of the clinic or provided to me in advance.

Size:  The clinic will be limited to 10 people so that everyone who attends will get sufficient 1x1 time with Andy.   If more than 10 are interested, we will look into adding a second session (time permitting).

If you are interested: Please respond to this thread with "yes" or "maybe" to indicate whether you will attend.  The first 10 “yes” responses I receive (in person, by email, or posted here on Google Groups) will be guaranteed a spot in the clinic.  Please note that due to the rental cost if you commit by responding yes we will ask you to pay the $6 fee even if you are unable to attend, unless an alternate participant is available.

TRANSITION CLINIC:

Date and Time:  POSTPONED (date TBD)

Location:  Westbrook's Riverbank Park (just a few minutes away from the pool)

Format:  Everyone is welcome to attend -- no prior experience is necessary!  This will be a great opportunity to learn how to do transitions if you have never done a triathlon before, or improve your transitions if you are looking to get faster or more comfortable!  The clinic will be modeled on an event that Joe and I attended earlier this year in at Gorham Bike.

Bring ALL your race gear as if this were an actual triathlon race, including swim gear (wetsuit, cap and goggles), bike gear (bike, shoes, helmet), run gear (shoes, race belt, hat), and any other items you would use in the race or in transition (towel/mat, race clothing, body glide, sunglasses, etc).

We will first discuss different options for arranging transition areas depending on whether the goal is speed or comfort, and one example of each approach will be demonstrated.

Everyone will then setup their area and, one at a time, do a full-speed run through of the T1 and T2 transitions (timed, if you want).  Feedback will then be provided to each person to help them better reach their transition goals.  Time permitting we will have everyone do a second run-through to practice changes and newly learned techniques.

Lastly, we will conclude with a team transition relay race that promises to be very fun and exciting!

Cost:  FREE

Size:  No participation limit!

If you are interested: Please respond to this thread with "yes" or "maybe" to indicate whether you will attend.

Please let me know if there are any questions, and we hope to see you there!

Brian

Hi everyone,

There are still a few spots open for the swim clinic on Saturday!

Also, let me know if you would like to attend our transition clinic and relay race afterwards!   I've made up two homemade transition racks so we can do a true-to-life transition area!

Hope to see you there!
Brian

All,

We are rescheduling tomorrow's transition clinic because a number of interested members are unavailable. New date is TBD.  I'll update the first post to reflect this change.

The swim clinic is still happening as planned!  Including DJ, we now have 9 attending so there is still one open spot -- if anyone else would like to join please reply here or send me an email.

See you tomorrow at the pool!
Brian
