[Aug 8] Scarborough swim/bike/run group training

Hi everyone, make sure to mark your calendars for this weekend's swim/bike/run group training event, which will be on Saturday, 8/8.   

Meet up time will be 7:00 am!


Parking:  The parking lot for Ferry Beach is off of Ferry Rd.  Fee collection starts at 9am.  If you arrive early enough for the swim or bike, than no fee is due and you can stay as long as you want!!  (I confirmed this with Bill Reichl, the Recreation Manager for Scarborough)


Swim (7:00 am):   Meet at Ferry Beach in Scarborough (Google map of swim location).   We'll get in the water at 7:15 and aim to swim for approximately 30 min.  This is a great place to get acclimated to open water swimming as there is essentially no surf, but you'll still get the feel of the salt water and practice sighting, etc.  We'll be starting just after high tide so there'll be very little current also.   There are a couple buoys I use that are about 150 to 200 yards apart, and we can swim lengths between them to hit any desired distance.




Bike (8:00 am):  Bike Course Map (Map My Run).  Scenic coastal and county roads through Black point, Higgins Beach, and Cape Elizabeth.  The first (and last) 6 miles is mostly flats with nice costal views.  Miles 6-12 have some significant hills.  We'll organize depending on who is riding and what pace everyone wants to do. We can either split into two groups, or use various catch up locations where everyone can regroup.  This will be a no-drop ride.  




Run (9:30 am):  Run Course Map (Map My Run). Very scenic out and back to Black Point overlooking the ocean.  The view is worth it. :)   There are two options.  From the parking lot to Prouts Neck and back is 2.7 miles.  To hit 5k, an additional 0.8 mi can be added by running a short additional out -and-back along the rest of Ferry Rd overlooking the beach.     




Extra Miles (after the above): Some people may be looking for additional miles beyond the above courses.  Depending on the interests of the group, some people may do a second bike loop after the run (possibly a different course for variety) to get in some extra miles.  I will probably aim to do two bike loops.
