This weekend is the Tri for a Cure in South Portland Maine at the SMCC campus. This is a very inspiring event to spectate with over 1,100 participants from all ages and stages in their fitness journey. The cancer survivor wave swims first and will kick off the race at 7:30 AM. Parking is tight so if you consider going to watch I would bring a bag breakfast and plan on getting there early. There are usually food trucks, vendors and other activities on site for spectators as well.
I have attached the spectator map and parking information from their website
triforacure.org
Myself and Amanda Giroux are participating? Are there any other TRIDEXXers on the roster?
This event is a fundraiser for Maine Cancer Foundation (MCF) which provides research grants to cutting edge cancer researchers as well as patient programs and support in the state of Maine. All triathletes must raise a minimum amount to participate. You can sponsor a particular athlete or donate to MCF directly at the Tri for a Cure website as well.
There may also still be opportunities to volunteer for this event, you can sign up on their website as well.
This has been my favorite event for the last 5 years as the participants are an ongoing source of inspiration for me. From the survivors who have battled (or are battling cancer) to the 76 year old women "Cookie" that participates each year, to the families that form relay teams to remember lost loved ones. It all makes doing a triathlon seem like cake in comparison. I'll take 2 hours of exercise in the sun over cancer any day.
