Wecome! Here you will find information on how to use this forum and the calendar. This thread will be a work in process -- please reply below if there are any questions or suggestions for how to make it more useful. Thanks!
Getting Started:
You’ll need to set up a Google account which you can do by visiting
google.com. Please note: The calendar and forum are private and it is easier for TRIDEXX administrators to approve access if you set up the Google account using your IDEXX email address.
The forum allows TRIDEXX members to discuss any topic of interest. For example, a topic (or "thread") will be created for each race events, like this one for the
Sebago Lake Triathlon. Generally, the top post will contain a summary of the event and any updated information over time. Anyone can "reply" to the thread to add a comment, ask a question, or contribute anything else of interest.
A few guidelines for creating posts, to help us all keep things organized:
- For events, please add the event date in brackets to the beginning of the thread title. For example: "[June 14] Sebago Lake Triathlon".
- Use "tags" to categorize your topic content. For example, add the "run" tag to a thread about a group training runs. Multiple tags can be added to each topic. Tags can be added from a list found at the bottom of the page when you compose a new topic, or added by clicking "edit tags" link when viewing a topic.
Forum Tips:
- Click on a tag to quickly filter the list of topics
Forum FAQ:
How do I change my email notifications? The forum can automatically send email updates when new topics or replies are posted on the forum. By default, no email will be sent. To enable email notifications for an individual topic, when viewing the topic, click the little circle icon with a downward triangle inside it ("topic options" will be displayed when your mouse hovers over it), and then select "Email updates to me" from the drop down menu. You can view a list of all topics that you are subscribed to by clicking on the "person & gear" icon at the top right ("my settings") and selecting "my topic email subscriptions" from the list.
For global email notifications, select one of the options at "My Settings" -> "Membership and email settings" -> "email delivery preference". By default this will be set to "Don't send email updates".
Group Calendars (note as of 1/2016 we are not planning to continue updating the Google calendars):
There are two calendars for the group:
TRIDEXX and
TRIDEXX Training Opportunities. To view and/or subscribe to either calendar, click one of the links and then click "Yes" when asked "Do you want to add this calendar?" The calendar will be added to your google account and can be viewed and/or edited (depending on the calendar settings) easily in
Google Calendar. You can always find the calendars easily by clicking the links in the welcome message at the top of the forum.
The
TRIDEXX calendar will contain all major events pertinent to the entire group, such as target races, primary group training sessions, clinics, and other sponsored activities. This calendar will be maintained by the TRIDEXX group administrators, and all team members will be able to view (but not modify) its events.
The
TRIDEXX Training Opportunities calendar can be viewed and modified by any member of the group. This calendar is for special interest and ad hoc events, for example, to schedule and announce group workouts or other activities with other members of the group. Anyone can modify (and delete!) any event on this calendar, so please be careful. Please also remember to add estimated MPH or pace on any group rides or runs that you may add so that interested TRIDEXXers can easily determine if the opportunity is right for them.
Lastly, you can use the existing TRIDEXX Training Opportunities distribution list in tandem with the corresponding calendar by sending notifications out to the distribution list to indicate that you have added to the calendar.
Calendar Tips:
- Calendars can be turned on and off by clicking the colored box to the left of the calendar name in the left-hand side bar. If the box has color that calendar is on and is displayed on your screen, if the box has no color it is not turned on and is NOT displayed on your screen.
- Multiple calendars can be overlaid and viewed simultaneously simply by turning them all on.
- When adding to the Training Opportunities calendar please refrain from selecting an alternate color for your post and instead use the default color. This will make viewing multiple calendars at once easier on the eyes for everyone.
- When adding a new event, check that the correct calendar is selected in the "Calendar" drop-down menu on the event details page, as the default may not be your desired calendar. If needed, events can be moved to a different calendar by editing the event and selecting a different calendar in the drop-down menu.
