Parking: We'll meet at Ferry Beach in Scarborough (Google map of swim location). The parking lot for Ferry Beach is off of Ferry Rd. Fee collection starts at 9:00 am. If you arrive early enough for the swim or bike, than no fee is due and you can stay as long as you want!! (This has been the policy in previous years and I am currently confirming with the town Recreation Manager).
Swim (7:00 am): We'll meet in the parking lot at 7:00 and plan to get in the water at 7:15. Swim duration and distance will be up to each individual, but in general we'll swim parallel to the beach for about 30-40 min. This is a great place to get acclimated to ocean swimming as there is essentially no surf, but you'll still get the feel of the salt water and be able to practice sighting, etc. Recent water temps off Pine Point have hit 60 F so it shouldn't be too cold. We'll be starting just after high tide so the water will a little warmer. There are usually a couple buoys I use to mark distance that are about 200 yards apart; we can swim lengths between them to hit any desired distance without getting too far apart.
Bike (8:00 am): 16 mi Bike Course Map (Map My Run). we'll This will be a "no-drop" ride, which means the group will wait for everyone to catch up at major intersections. The course is 16 miles over scenic coastal and county roads through Black point, Higgins Beach, and Cape Elizabeth. The first (and last) 6 miles is over flat or rollings terrain with nice coastal views. Miles 6-12 have some bigger hills on Spurwink and Sawyer. Depending on who is riding and what pace and distance the group is comfortable at, we may also choose to do a longer 27 mi Bike Course (May My Run) that adds a couple out and back sections (Charles Jordan and Lobster Shack).
For the bike leg, we'll meet at 8:00 in the parking lot at Ferry Beach to get ready, and we'll aim to start at 8:15. Depending on distance and pace chosen by the group, the bike may take between 1 and 2 hours and should finish between 9:15 and 10:15.
16 mile course:
Optional 27 mile course:
Run (9:30 to 10:30 am): Run Course Map (Map My Run). To complete the morning we'll have a scenic out and back run to Black Point, which overlooks the ocean. The view alone is worth it. :) From the beach parking lot to the end of Prouts Neck and back is 2.7 miles.
Extra Miles (after the above): I will probably plan to go out on the bike again afterwards for some additional miles. Anyone who is interested is welcome to join me! Distance will depend on what we do earlier in the day, but may be another 20-30 miles.
More info and RSVP: I'll be the contact person and can be reached at 443-207-1364 voice or text in case of any questions or a change in plans. I will post here again later in the week with any updates.
If you're interested please reply to this topic to let us know you will be attending!
Looking forward to a great training day and hope you can be there!
