I sent this last night, but apparently it didn't make it, so I'll try again.

Based on Bob's comments about Bob Scott (age 79) in the note about Kyle Garlett, I'd say these records still stand.

Subject: Ironman Hawaii Oldest finisher?

I thought I'd do a little research on a question that came up at Doug's tonight.

In 2005, Robert McKeague of Villa Park, Ill., finished Kona in 16:21:55, at age 80.  This may still be a record, since I couldn't find his name in subsequent years and they haven't posted participant's ages in the past few years.

In 2005, Sister Madonna Buder of Spokane finished in 15:54:16, at age 76.
In 2006 she did a 16:59:03 and gets honorable mention in Bob's Kona-06 Journal.
She was a DNF in 2007 and 2009.

But what do you expect, this just isn't your mother's ordinary ironman...It's got 2 foot swells, wind on the bike and then there's the heat.  As Bob may once have said, if Kona was easy, anyone could do it.

I remember that guy from 2005 - he finished 3 minutes after me - real nice guy & looked more like 60 than 80 - I think I remember he did the run in like 5:15 while I walked the last 12 miles with blisters all over my feet! I would have loved to have his run time!
