Congratulations, Mike on another great race and for taking 1st Place in your age group! Congratulations, Jim on a great race as well!  You both had pretty impressive times!  I wish I could've seen you guys cross the Finish Line!  I've always wanted to try Beaver Dam... Maybe next year. 😊

Cheers!

Lilly

Thanks for the nice comments Lillie, Missy and Bob. I should point out that Jim beat me in our last race (Chrystal Coast Half last May). He was quite gracious yesterday, referring to our 1-2 finish as retribution. We both had fun and are most grateful to still be out there racing with all the young folks.

To respond to Bob’s comment about biking to the beach, the following dates can work for me. After these days, I’m out of pocket until August/September.

  1. May 10 (Fri) or 11 (Sat);
  2. May 18 (Sat); or
  3. May 24 (Fri).

If one of these dates work, then folks are welcomed to shower/change/stay at our beach house that night.  First come – first serve for the four extra bedrooms and sleeper.

Okay, can we let the fun and anticipation begin?

Mike

Jim Bullock, you and Mike work off each other to just keep getting better - Two peas in pod!  Congratulations again to both of you 😎🙌🏼

Thanks for the invite, Mike! Bert and I are definitely in!   We will confirm which dates will work for us and go with whatever date works best for the group.

Come on Dr. Bob, the anticipation has already begun!

Double Cheers,

Lillie

It looks like May is out for us.  We have several family events including Kyle travelling to Argentina for several weeks.

So Mike had the honors to do the race report for Beaverdam, but he delegated it to me due to time constraints.
The water temperature was chilly but not unbearable and the air temperature was chilly and cloudy. Mike and I came out of the swim at the same time at 38 minutes and into T1. I got out of T1 a little ahead. My plan was to try to get about a five minute or better bike lead because Mike was stronger on the run. Anyway, Mike came within sight at about 10 miles out and stayed gapped behind me about 300 feet until 7 miles to go when he passed looking strong and relaxed and I trailed about 400 feet behind maintaining the gap to the T2. My legs were cold from the swim but not cramping, but just could not generate the desired watts to hold a needed 20 mph. So we come into T2 at about the same time with both of us in T2 changing to running gear me about 1 minute behind on the exit.
Mike exited T2 running strong and just as I anticipated had a good strong run besting me by 10 minutes on that leg.
All in all a good strong competitive race until the run leg.
Congratulations to Mike on an excellent performance and a well executed race plan. He is truly an inspiration and a great source motivation for me to keep training to do this sport.
And yes as Mike basically said, we are now always among the oldest if not the very oldest competitors  (me having that distinction at Beaverdam) now, and yes it is still fun to play with the young guys and manage to beat a few of them. The competition starts thinning out at age 70 since as you all know, this is not a sport for the faint of heart.
As I have said in previous reports, with average VO2 capacity and 50/50 slow twitch/fast twitch leg fibers outracing the competition when I was younger was a big challenge so, my goal was to outlive the competition and it appears that point has been reached thanks in no small part to Mike continuing to push me and kick my butt.
Thanks again Mike and the Pinehurst chapter of Tricredibles will take a hard look at B2B May dates.
See y’all at the races and on the roads.
Jimbo

Well done, Jim. Thanks for picking up the slack by doing the report. I should mention again that he beat me in our last race.

It sure would be fun to see mostly Tricredibles at the awards ceremony like “back in the day.” We miss ALL OF YOU! Bruce, thank you for all those years being our leader and motivator.

Jim has asked for an update.

Looks like Bob is out, and Bert and Lilley are interested. I have not heard from anyone else. The only date that now works for me is Friday, May 24. Any takers?

Thanks.

Mike
