Did the Lake Lure Sprint today in the mountains about 40 miles from Asheville. 750 meter swim was so so, lot’s of bodies in the water. 14 mile bike ride was quite challenging. Constant climes followed by breathtaking downhills. By no means an easy course but managed to average about 15 mph. Very technical with lots of gearing and braking. Absolutely not like flatland Pitt County biking. 5k run was up the mountain for 1.5 miles (tough slog) and then turnaround and enjoy a dreamy 1.6 miles downhill. Anyway got 1st place age group out of 2 with overall time of 2:13. I was the 4th oldest guy in the race. Finished 153 out of 190 overall and 118 out of 137 males. Beat half of the 10 entrants in the 65-69 age group, but the 1 guy in the 70 age group was a ringer and he turned the course in an amazing 2:03. Challenging but beautiful race.
Still hanging in there at 75 years young.
