Breakout Brothers 2 is a 2022 Hong Kong action comedy film directed by Mak Ho-pong and starring Patrick Tam, Louis Cheung, Ron Ng, Justin Cheung, Adam Pak and Kenny Wong. A sequel to the 2020 film, Breakout Brothers, the film tells the story of a remanded entrepreneur who initially bribes and then blackmails four inmates who once planned a successful breakout in the previous film to help him set up an escape plan.
The film was released on 13 January 2022 in Macau[2] and Singapore,[3] and on 28 April 2022 in Hong Kong.[4] A sequel to the film, titled Breakout Brothers 3, is set for release on 2 June 2022 and will be the final instalment of the series.[citation needed]
After their breakout from the previous film, Big Roller, Kin-tin, Scar and Ho-ching have changed their behavior and became more rule-abiding, hoping to complete their prison sentences soon. As the prison becomes more peaceful, Ho Chun, an entrepreneur who is accused for instigating crime, is remanded in prison for three months before his next hearing. Since Ho is used to being above others, he applies his business philosophy in prison and bribes Big Roller and Scar to be his followers while Ho himself becomes the big boss in prison. When Ho discovers a new witness who will testify against him which may result in a life sentence, and bribes Big Roller, Kin-tin, Scar and Ho-ching to help him breakout of prison and promises to arrange a getaway to Thailand. However, because they have changed their ways, the four of them refuse to help Ho so Ho resorts to blackmailing them and they are forced to oblige.
Breakout Brothers 2 was originally set for theatrical release on 13 January 2022 in Hong Kong,[5] but was pushed back to 28 April 2022 due to cinema closures amid the fifth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong.[4] The film retained its 13 January release date in Macau[2] and Singapore.[3]
Gabriel Chong of MovieXclusive gave the film a score of 3/5, noting it as marginally better than its predecessor and praising the cast for carrying the film on its shoulders.[7] On the other hand, Edmund Lee of the South China Morning Post gave the film a score of 2.5/5 stars and notes its story and jokes pale in comparison to its predecessor.[8]

The prison has been led by two powerful prisoners, who are triad leader Big Roller (Patrick Tam) and life imprisoned inmate Scar (Justin Cheung). The steady life in prison changes with the arrival of wrongly accused inmate Mak Kin-tin (Adam Pak).
First, Kin-tin was constantly being threatened by Scar, which led Kin-tin to give up on his appeal request and was later bullied by other inmates when they found out he was involved with destroying the storage unit with the belongings Big Roller's presumed deceased daughter, when in actuality, Kin-tin was framed. In order to protect his life, Kin-tin takes the suggestion of his cellmate, Ho-ching (Louis Cheung), and they work together to plan a precise escape from prison.
In order to avoid the strict supervision of Warden Tang (Kenny Wong), Ho-ching persuades Big Roller to help them but informing him that his daughter is alive and they work together along with Kin-tin to devise an escape plan utilizing each one of their strengths. However, Scar also discovers the plan and the trio reluctantly let him join. As a result, these four inmates put aside past rivalry and work together to breakout of prison.
Breakout Brothers was theatrically released on 3 December 2020 in Singapore[3] The film was set to open the same day in Hong Kong, due to cinema closures from 2 December 2020 to 17 February 2021 amid the fourth wave of the COVID-19 pandemic in Hong Kong, the film's release was postponed to 25 February 2021 in the territory.[4][1][2] The film was presented at the Busan International Film Festival's virtual Asian Contents & Film Market on 27 October 2020.[5]

Triad leader Roller and life-sentence inmate Scar maintain the balance of power as the bosses of the prison they're incarcerated at. Life at the prison gets disrupted by the arrival of new inmate Mak, who has run-ins with both Scar and Roller. With things going so badly for him in prison, Mak has no choice but to join in the breakout plot being hatched by Chan. However, Roller and Scar also end up being part of the plan!
Ho Chun, a young entrepreneur, is sent to jail. By implementing his philosophy in the business world that money can solve any problems, Ho Chun offers Big Roller, Kin-Tin, Scar and Ho-Ching a considerable amount of money for assisting him to breakout from jail.
Former warden Tang is imprisoned for accepting bribes, while Jun who failed to escape from prison returns to prison to continue serving his sentence. Jun sees that Tang is familiar with the prison and lures him into cooperating in the breakout plan. The two hit it off, and even tried to create trouble and blame it on Big Roller. Jun soon discovers that Tang has other tricks, forcing him to team up again with Big Roller, Mak and new warden Ma to crack Tang`s conspiracy.
