The Lexmark Universal Print Driver provide users and administrators with a standardized, one-driver solution for their printing needs. Instead of installing and managing individual drivers for each printer model, administrators can install the Lexmark Universal Print Driver for use with a variety of both mono and color laser printers and multi-function devices.
With only one package to manage, testing and internal certification of print drivers is simplified by the use of the Lexmark Universal Print Driver packages. Time spent on installation, both on servers and workstations, is greatly reduced, and hard drive space formerly occupied by many product-specific drivers is now diminished significantly.
The Lexmark Universal Print Driver packages use the same graphic user interface as the product-specific drivers the users are accustomed to, and now all queues will share that same interface, decreasing calls to the help desk. Users can create and save profiles for their most frequently used settings, or use profiles that were created for them by IT.
The new user interface of the Universal Print Driver provides a more consistent look and feel across all printer models, with controls and settings that have been modified to provide better language support and overall customer experience.
With the new Universal Print Driver installer, administrators can choose to create preconfigured installation packages that include only the software and drivers that meet their organization's needs. This is accomplished by combining the custom installation package with Driver Configuration Files (DCFs), which lets administrators create a deployment package that best suits their environment. DCFs are described in more detail below.
The latest version of the Universal Print Driver has the ability to update its user interface to reflect the features and options of any supported printer model. When the driver is connected to a printer through USB or over a network, the driver automatically updates its configuration, showing only the features and functions of a chosen printer model. For example, only the paper sizes, trays, paper types, finishing options, and other options that the printer supports are shown to the user.
Administrators can use the Printer Driver Configuration Utility to create driver configurations. A driver configuration is a group of saved printer driver settings and other options that is stored in a Driver Configuration File (DCF). You can also create subset driver configurations that work across different printer models. You can use the utility to:
Each package includes a Microsoft WHQL certified 32 and 64-bit PCL 5 emulation, PCL XL emulation, PS3 emulation and HBP universal printer driver. These driver packages will upgrade your existing installation of the universal printer driver.
The Mac UPD driver comes in 2 variants. The Color driver package is meant to work on color printers, whereas the Mono driver package will work on the mono printers. Each of the driver package comes in a DMG file format. These drivers will work for both ARM and Intel Architecture.

Lexmark International, Inc. is a privately held American company[3] that manufactures laser printers and imaging products. The company is headquartered in Lexington, Kentucky. Since 2016 it has been jointly owned by a consortium of three multinational companies: Apex Technology, PAG Asia Capital, and Legend Capital.[4]
Lexmark was formed on March 27, 1991, when investment firm Clayton & Dubilier completed a leveraged buyout of IBM Information Products Corporation, the printer, typewriter, and keyboard operations of IBM.[5][6][7][8][9] Lexmark became a publicly traded company on the New York Stock Exchange on November 15, 1995 (under NYSE:LXK).[10]
A court victory in 2005 was handed to Lexmark in the case of ACRA v. Lexmark. This case states that Lexmark can enforce the "single use only" policy written on the side of Lexmark printer cartridge boxes sold to certain large customers at a discount, with the understanding that the customers will return the cartridges to Lexmark after using them. This means that these customers can face lawsuits if they breach the agreements and do not return the cartridges.
Also in 2005, Lexmark suffered a legal defeat in the case of Arizona Cartridge Remanufacturers Ass'n Inc. v. Lexmark International Inc., when the U.S. Supreme Court rejected Lexmark's petition for a writ of certiorari, thereby rejecting their attempt to have the Court hear their case. In this case, the defendant was a manufacturer of microchips that allowed third-party ink and toner cartridges to work on printers, including many manufactured by Lexmark. Such printers incorporated a feature that would require authentication from a microchip within the ink/toner cartridge in order to function; this was designed to prohibit users from refilling the cartridges. However, a recent firmware update allowed Lexmark to prevent end users from refilling ink cartridges or using third-party ink cartridges.
Hi guys! Just installed Ubuntu 12.04 32op sistem and my printer Lexmark p4350, but does not want to print, message says: error during the CUPS operation: "client-error-document-format-not-supported! Probably some more drivers missing! Please help me to sort out this issue. Thanks
Unfortunately for me my Lexmark P4350 will never be in use as there is no drivers for Ubuntu or Linux!!! This answer i got from Lexmark cust. serice!
"Thank you for contacting Lexmark eSupport team. We do understand that you are trying to make the printer work on your Ubuntu operating system. The printer is not compatible with Linux or Ubuntu operating system. We do not have software drivers available."
In future I suggest you buy HP. The HPLIP package is in the default install and supports tonnes of HP printers and multifunctions. The HPLIP project is extremely active and you'll probably find their stuff works out of the box, unlike in Windows with several hundred megabytes of downloads for drivers
a. Compatibility: HP printer drivers are designed to be compatible with specific printer models and various operating systems, including Windows, macOS, Linux, and sometimes mobile platforms.
c. Bidirectional Communication: Some HP printer drivers enable bidirectional communication, providing real-time feedback on ink or toner levels, paper jams, and other printer status updates.
d. Maintenance and Troubleshooting: Many HP printer drivers include tools for printer maintenance, such as print head alignment and ink/toner cartridge cleaning. Additionally, they aid in troubleshooting common printing issues.
HP printer drivers work as a bridge between the application software (like Microsoft Word or Adobe Photoshop) and the printer hardware. When a user initiates a print job, the application sends the print data to the operating system. The printer driver then translates this data into a language known as a printer control language (PCL) or a page description language (PDL). This language provides precise instructions to the printer on how to arrange text and graphics on the page, control the color output, and manage other printing parameters.
HP printer drivers can be installed in various ways, depending on the printer model and the operating system. For most modern printers, HP offers downloadable driver packages from its official website. Users can select the appropriate driver for their printer model and OS version, download the package, and follow the installation wizard to set up the driver.
Alternatively, some operating systems have built-in generic drivers that support basic printing functionality for HP printers. While these drivers can get the job done, they may lack some advanced features and optimizations specific to the printer model.
Regularly updating HP printer drivers is essential to ensure optimal performance and compatibility with the latest software and operating system updates. Updated drivers often come with bug fixes, security enhancements, and improvements in print quality and speed. HP periodically releases driver updates to address known issues and to adapt to changes in the computing environment.
HP printer drivers play a crucial role in ensuring smooth and efficient communication between a computer and an HP printer. As an essential component of the printing process, these drivers facilitate the translation of data from the computer to the printer, resulting in high-quality printouts and an overall enhanced printing experience. Regularly updating and maintaining HP printer drivers is vital to ensure compatibility with the latest operating systems, improved performance, and seamless functionality. By leveraging the power of reliable HP printer drivers and supplementary software, users can unlock the full potential of their HP printers and enjoy hassle-free printing for all their needs.
We'll end this overview of new printers with a look at the additional functions some of them have. The most significant group of functions is that related to printing without using the PC. HP paved the way a few years ago by including the first slots for memory cards on its Photosmart models. The memory slots are now found also on the Stylus Photo R300, but not on the models from Canon and Lexmark. Canon has chosen instead to use PictBridge technology to link a digital camera directly to its printer. It's a less practical solution than the memory slot, and worse yet, a slower one - the PictBridge link uses the older USB 1.1. Only the Stylus C66 Photo Edition and the Lexmark Z816 lack any method of printing without a PC.
