I am getting a -2000 error on a Mac when loading .mov sound files.
Nothing freezes and clicking OK removes the error message and the file
plays correctly.
Haven't been able to find what -2000 relates to.
If anybody is still out there I'd appreciate any insight.

Hi Gary,

Any differences if you load the file with the movie or the sound
elements?

TC's reply rings a bell with me too... change the element, and if that
doesn't work, muck about with the suffix on the file.

Thanks guys.
I've tried both sound and movie elements without change.
Tests fine in editor, but pops up the error in the runtime.
Click ok, error goes away, the sound plays.
Don't know what to muck with on suffixes.
Thought .mov was best for sound only.
Any thoughts?

hi
It might be the codec it's saved in or a trivial issue with the file
structure.
i vaguely remember fixing something like this at one stage by simply
re-saving some of my errant .mov files to a new fresh file and it all
worked ok.
Worth a try on one to see if thats the problem.

Hi Gary,

Perhaps you could experiment with saving the audio in a native audio
only format e.g. .wav, .mp3 etc. and use it within a sound element.

LLoyd, TC, and Tracy
I resaved all .mov audio only files without success.
I exported all to .aif and used the sound element without success.
Haven't tried .mp3 yet.
Do we know that a -2000 error relates to Quicktime?
Or is that an iShell error designation?
Thanks
Gary

I've tried .mp3 and .mov with different codec without success.

I get the following error code from the console:
8/12/09 12:54:37 PM [0x0-0x63063].com.tribalmedia.RunShell[1022] ***
set a breakpoint in malloc_error_break to debug
8/12/09 12:54:37 PM [0x0-0x63063].com.tribalmedia.RunShell[1022]
RunShell(1022,0xa0507720) malloc: *** error for object 0xffffffff: Non-
aligned pointer being freed

Hieroglyphics to me.

hi

Ok next step i'd take would be to create a new empty project and place just 1 of the .mov files into it - burn it onto a cd and see if it plays as expected on several different machines. [and i mean several - not just your main authoring machine]

To help narrow down the problem then I would then get a 'known good' mov file - say a fresh download from the apple website or similar - and use that to test it.

If it does play ok without error i would assume the problem is something to do with the way the other project is set up.
If it still does not play ok then i would assume it's a software issue.

I have had batches of videos do this sort of thing to me before and the best way to diagnose it is to create a new fresh project with fresh test files to eliminate all the possibilities.

hope this helps in some way.

There used to be a very helpful macerrors.h file in the Apple OSX system frameworks headers directory somewhere that listed all the error codes and what they meant... but i cant find it anymore in the current system 10.5. Anyone else know where it's gone to?

Quicktime error -2000 is "couldNotResolveDataRef"

AFAIK, that usually happens when you've used a reference movie instead
of a self-contained movie.

(I have the macErrors file.)

Lloyd's testing methodology is a good path to try. We want to get a simple 1 element project that breaks and one that does not. Then we look at why it is breaking. Let me know if I can help.

Thanks guys. I got it. And I really appreciate your help.
The Quicktime error -2000 is "couldNotResolveDataRef" sent me in a different direction.
My project calls for a random sound to be pulled from a .tab file, along with a text insertion to a field.
The correct video would always play and the text would be inserted correctly after I dismissed the -2000 error message.
I rebuilt and resaved my data file and succeeded.
Tracy, I would publish that macErrors file somewhere.
I searched Mac support over and over and could only find info related to OS9 or earlier, and no -2000.
You would think Apple would have current error info somewhere.
I looked in Mac Reference Library, but couldn't find it if it's in there somewhere.
Anyway, thanks for hanging in there with me.

Actually, it's been in my folder on the TM site for years now,
although the one I checked is in my current Apple Xcode setup.

(Glad you found it.)

Hi everyone,

Just for the records this error is most likely caused by the wrap
mechansim. QT is only so good at letting us wrap some types of files.
You can choose "No Wrap..." from the editor. Or try saving this
audio file as a true QT movie as well. Not .mp3 or .wav. But a .mov
with a aif, ima or other type of data.

Cheers,
Matt
