Hey Everyone,

In our last meeting which as attended by Jeet-Kei, Woo, Sobey, Amir, Mimi, Paula and myself, a number of things were discussed, the most important of which was that we have done enough initial talking and exploring and now it is time to really get serious about this project and to get things done!

What is needed to get things to the next level is to finance a few of us to enable to dedicate the time to actually do the necessary dirty work!

Phase I Funding
I drafted the attached document  describing a phased approach to funding. Although it seems like we have done a lot of work, much more work needs to be done. For example; understanding the nuances of zoning and lease agreements, evaluation of other options, talking to others that have developed community spaces, identifying board members, developing the business plan to raise phase II funding, conducting the surveys and engaging the community, developing the operations team etc... this is a lot of work!

Phase I will require raising $10K to cover legal costs and the labour for a few of us to do the work. Jeet-Kei and myself are working on a basic presentation that we will use to raise the money for Phase I. We expect this to be complete in the next 2 weeks or so.

Those that participate in this part of the process will be those that are both interested as well as have the experience to carry out the job. Please review the document and if you feel you want to be a part of the initial funding process, submit your resume to the group.

Staffing, compensation etc
.
It is now time to start thinking about who actually wants to work at the Intention Centre. At this point, myself, Sobey and Mimi have expressed interest. Those that are interested in this opportunity are encouraged to reflect their interest asap and to submit resume's

Woo has developed this survey in order to gauge peoples' level of interest in working on this project. We need to nail down commitments. Please complete this survey if you are serious about staying involved with the development and ongoing operations of the Intention Centre./

Understanding these details will be necessary in order to effectively move to Phase II in the funding process.

Intention Centre Website and Survey

Dustin has graciously set up a basic website. On the website you will find the survey that we want to pass on to community members. Please complete this and distribute as you see fit!

Note that those that do not respond and reflect ongoing interest will be removed from the Google Group.

Once it is clear who wants to move forward on the project we will schedule another meeting. Due to the fact that many of us are at festivals and generally away a lot, scheduling might be a challenge...

Let us know if you have any questions...

With Love In the Spirit of Community...

My thoughts on the funding proposal:

I think we're jumping the gun a bit by creating a whole "job application"/"submit resumes" process for a relatively small amount of seed money.

I'd suggest approaching from more of an angle of: 1) identifying who the core group is (evidenced by those who've consistently shown up) and empowering that group to continue their work in a consistent manner, 2) Spell out the deliverables (ie complete the business plan, incorporation, etc.) in the contract, 3) attach the most appropriate humans for achieving the deliverables and 4) figure out realistic milestones and timelines, which will then 5) become the responsibilities/job descriptions of the individuals hired for this "start-up phase" contract.

I like the vision of everyone in the core group being paid for a day a week of work over 3-4 months to get things off the ground. I'm sure we would make fast progress in this scenario...

The Blessings,
Jeet-Kei

Hey All

Great work suresh! Way to get the ball rolling, I think both perspectives are necessary, I agree that we can get angel funding for this, a number of us already have people who have expressed interest.

I think we should use 'The Hive' as a model for how they did what they did. They had a website up with the intention, the ideas, the forums, made it looked sexy..

They got a good cad drawer to create an architecutural picture of what they wanted the space to look/feel like given the intention of the space.

They built up some buzz and got interested parties to put down a deposit on a table, me being one of them.

Then they went to work on the space, with the right skills on the team, some cash in pocket,

Hey Guys

I just wrote a long message and it got deleted.. See if I can rewrite it

Ok, so I agree with both jeet Kei and suresh..

I think we need to move the development platform forward, jeet Kei, I agree that we need one or two angel funders, I don't think we will have difficulty getting them once we show coherence in our plan.

Take the Hive as a model/example

They identified the need, found a space, built a website, got an architectural engineer to do a cad drawing of the space to show how they could design it with their vision.

They had a sexy website, a simple intro video with the vision that got people excited, a blog where people could follow up, and deposits where tentive renters, including myself, put down $300.

We should follow the same process

Nail down a solid ppt presentation, get a sexy website in motion, nail down the co-operative so we can show investors the plan, create the agreements and documentation, create a hyped video, cad the space out, and get deposits/angel funding while we build the space itself.

I think it's a bit early looking for employees for the space, but if someone wants to work full time to make this happen, then some remuneration would be helpful.

I think we need another meeting, where we identify who else we need to make this happen, what our roles and responsibilities are, and a timeline with goals and objectives. Then we can be successful At breaking into pods..

Let's keep this ball rolling!!

Hello all,

Yes yes yes!

So inspiring to see how far this has come. Yes it still has a ways to go but I can now see how it needs to evolve.

I agree with not jumping the gun with resumes, job application, etc.; having a meeting where we assign roles and responsibilities speaks volumes to me. Locking that down will allow us to pool our resources effectively and hone our creativity which is a surefire way of focusing the energy.

I'm already thinking about where I fit and what level of commitment I can offer.

I agree that the people who aren't responding to this process be removed from the Google Group. It will help the overall progress.

I just bought a new smancy video camera that we can use to shoot any promo vids when needed.

Is it best that we fill out the survey before the next meeting or discuss it together?

I agree that it will be more difficult to organize a meeting right now but we can at least plan one for when we are more free.

Rock on!

Wow! so much to consider and the ball is starting to roll fast!

I agree with the current discussion and agree with the suggested things we need to tackle, particularly some rolls and responsibilities, and time line..

We need to establish a regular bi weekly meeting time/place and stick to it and attend as much as possible in this festival/travel season.

Paula and I had a very imformative interview with Jude the founder/owner of the Beaumont Studios.
I will post the notes on pb works as soon as I am able tommorrow.

I also just returned from the wonderful Evlover event hosted at the just opened Over Mind Studios. Impressive what they have done!

All I can say is keep invsioning our dream with clarity as it is all beginning to really unfold....

so much love and appreciation for each of you!

Please keep working on the things you have committed to do, come the next meeting if at all possible, and connect up with other pods if you are not working on something for the project.

In love and light,
Mimi

PS the sexy web site, amazing visual representation, excellent directors/staff resumes, will all be needed in due time not only for investors, but for a potential landlord to convince them of our viability.
PPS YES-fill out the survey-the time is NOW to state one's commitment to the project. not later.

Hi Folks,

I haven't chimed in for a bit but I'm still here on the periphery to help whenever needed.

I'm not sure if you're aware but I've been teaching proposal writing for the last couple of years at VFS.  I'd be happy to offer up a quick power point presentation outlining the essential elements needed for a funding proposal.  I'm free next Tuesday or Wednesday if anyone is interested.

(:

Hey all,

i have been following most of your dialogue and process from a distance as someone very intrigues by these possibilities from the beginnning at Intention a couple years back. I have only been reading and not checking in as i've been engrossed in the Temple project. As i told Jeet-Kei at one point, i am more likely to be plugged in once i return from the desert. So please do NOT remove me from the google group. And i will see more of you all in the fall.

Yay for all of you beautiful engaged people!

Sorry for the lack of email communication. It's a weak point for me! But i do my best to keep up to date. And will try harder. I prefer more meetings and keeping productivity in real time!

I really feel having a booth type thing with surveys and panfilts, email list, how you can help list. At as many community events as possible will be a great out reach potential.

Eric! - I'd love to see your presentation as well.

Suresh - glad to see your doing what your best at, pushing teams forward

Jeet-Kay - great refining of sureshs email

Ra'am - hive model, thumbs up. I really think people will put cash down if we have the inspiring site and model up.
