Hi everybody,

Is anyone interested in having a get-together later this summer to discuss raw feeding practices?  I've been feeding raw for only a year, and a lot of what I've learned, I've learned from the internet - from total strangers talking about dogs I've never met.  (Really, I'm surprised it's gone as well as it has!)  At the Knueven lecture this past spring, I really appreciated hearing from people about their knowledge and experiences, and it occurred to me what a privilege it is to have such a large community of raw feeders here in the Triangle.

I mentioned this idea to Trish, and she graciously offered to host so that we could have a safe place to bring our dogs (she has a large fenced-in property, perfect for romping).  But before I got too far along in planning, I wanted to gauge interest.  It's open to anyone who feeds or is interested in feeding raw (whether prey model or commercial pre-made; 100% raw or 50-50 with kibble or the occasional raw meaty bone).  I think there's still plenty to discuss: suppliers, vets, breeding/weaning, etc.; and many of us have related interests in homeopathic/allopathic medicines.  So, I mean this to be very inclusive and supportive.

Anyone interested?

Thanks,
Liz

PS - I sent this to both the current google group and ye olde yahoo group, because not everyone has made the switch.  Apologies to people receiving this twice.

I hope we get a good response – it would be a fun and informative meet-up!

Wow!  I'm psyched that there is so much interest!  If people generally like the idea of getting together at Trish's house in Hillsborough, NC, maybe we could aim for a date in July or August?  It's a ways off, but gives us time to plan around summer travel schedules.  Would a pot-luck on a weekend evening work for everyone?

A couple of side issues came up in the responses.  I had no idea that these groups include people from such an expansive geography or that there's a difference between the buying co-op listserv and the information listserv.  Thanks to those who pointed these out.  If anyone wants to discuss these subjects further, could you do it on another thread?  I just don't want this one to get off-topic.  Thanks in advance.

Looking forward to meeting y'all!
Liz

Both lists are the same "organization". A former list organizer wanted to switch from yahoo to google groups. I have a no idea why that was done because it just made things confusing.

Thanks for all of the responses.  This is coming together really quickly!

How does Saturday, August 11 work for everyone?  Are there any major tests/trials/shows that day?  I can put together an evite, so we can more easily keep track of the dish's everyone's bringing and keep from clogging these listservs for people outside of the area.

August 11 was vetoed.  How about the 18th?  Also, if the day doesn't work, please suggest an alternative to keep the ball rolling.

August 18th will work. I understand about the big trial in Concord, but let’s keep the 8/18 date firm as there will be something in dog sports/shows going on almost every weekend and we can’t possibly meet everyone’s schedule.

Thanks,

Trish

Great!  Here's the plan:

Saturday, August 18 from 5:30 to 8:30 pm.
Trish's House: 2975 Canter Drive, Hillsborough, NC 27278.
Please bring a dish to share and whatever drinks you would like to imbibe.
Dogs are welcome, with the usual caveats of being well-behaved, not in heat, and if there is a conflict, be prepared to crate.

This is meant to be an inclusive and supportive evening, an opportunity to learn from each other and share experiences, to ask questions, and hopefully to receive guidance in return.  Hmm, maybe I should invite my Vet....

Looking forward to meeting everyone!

I use Dr. Lapham at Southpoint and Dr. Loops in Pittsboro (via phone).  They both endorse raw, and I can pass along the invitation.  Do you think it would be a little awkward?  While we're interested in hearing what they have to say, they won't be the only experts in this group.

I started feeding raw 8 years ago but am always learning more.
Liz - do you think your vet would come? That would be great if we could get a vet ( who approves of raw feeding ) to come!

Thanks!
Elisa

Wow thanks for putting this together! I'm pretty new to the group, but I think this is an excellent idea.

August 18th would be a good day for me. Perhaps you could make a doodle poll for the dates you are thinking and then people can put in the dates they are available. I'm not sure how to do this, but I have seen this be beneficial for organizing get-togethers for large groups of people.

I guess it can't hurt to ask and let them know what other experts will be there :) I have heard good things about Dr. Lapham and although Southpoint is pretty far from me I am considering changing vets to go there as I feel like my current vets are pretty much not in favor of everything I do with my dogs.

I can personally vouch for Dr. Lapham :) He strongly endorses raw and is great to bounce ideas off on for feeding amounts/types of food, schedules etc!

Hi everyone,

Trish and I are very excited to host this event.  To help keep track of who's coming, I created an evite, which will also help with automatic reminders.  I sent it out earlier this evening to the people who expressed interest in coming, as well as the listservs, so that everyone has a chance to RSVP, even if you didn't respond to the earlier emails.

Please note, some of you may receive the invitation more than once.  Therefore, when you register, please make sure that you are registering under your name and not "Triangle Raw" or "Triangle Raw Coop."

Please forward the invitation to anyone you think may be interested.

Thanks, and see you in August!

Hi Liz,

Thanks for all the good work to put this together and sorry I have not responded. Took a brand new tablet instead of my laptop and I’ve had a hard time getting email going. I did get your emails when I was finally able to down load everything. The way you worded the messages is great!

Thanks a bunch,

Trish
