Subject: [Wild&Fishy] Can you help with 4-H Judging?
To: Wild & Fishy <group-wil...@ncsu.edu>

Folks,

My apologies for double postings, but I am really in need of two more people to help judge the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources presentations at the State 4-H Presentation competition on Saturday, June 21st, and time is growing short.  Please see the message below, and if you can possibly help (or have questions), please contact me.

No expertise in fisheries or aquatic ecology is required - only willingness to listen to about a dozen presentations by some amazing kids, ask a question or two, offer a little positive feedback, and provide your thoughtful evaluations.  We should be finished by early afternoon based on the numbers of competitors this year.  You even get a free lunch!

Past judges have found this experience quite enjoyable; in fact several past judges have expressed disappointment that they can't participate again this year due to conflicts.

Your help will be greatly appreciated!

Thanks, Jim

Fisheries folks,

Each year 4-H conducts a Presentation competition as part of its State 4-H Congress here in Raleigh.  Contestants in three age groups (9-10, 11-13, 14-18) give an 8-12 minute presentation on a topic of their choice, using supporting props, displays, or demonstrations to make their case.  Winners of district competitions across the state come to Congress to compete in the State Finals.  Many of them are quite impressive and entertaining.

This year the competition is going to be held here on campus on Saturday, June 21.  I'm looking for three volunteers to assist in judging the Fisheries and Aquatic Resources presentations.  We will meet at 8:10am and should be finished by mid-afternoon.  Box lunches will be provided.

If you can help, or have questions, please contact me at 5-4592 or jim_...@ncsu.edu.  You don’t have to be an expert in fisheries or aquatic science, as this competition is as much about developing self-confidence and public speaking skills as it is about subject matter.  Judges in prior years have really enjoyed it.

Thanks, Jim Rice
