I just had a peek at the packet cluster to see what's
up with the TO4E group. Doesn't look like I've got a
very good shot at working them from the car on the way
home. But it sure looks like the group on T32 (East
Kiribati) are handing out a lot of QSOs! There'll be
more T32 QSLs in local hams' files than XE cards! :->

I worked them by surprise on Sunday night. Was tuning
around a bit on 20 meters, not expecting much. Heard
a pileup split above 14192.5 and listened for a bit--
the operator was really good. Worked very fast but
repeated full callsigns worked, took them by the number
but didn't stay on any 1 number for long, so nobody had
to wait long to have another chance--and he had good ears,
since I worked him on the second call even with 75 watts
and the AC4RD Pseudo-Zepp.

Sure hope it's half that easy when I finally get a shot
at TO4E!

Here, friends, is a reply to this 26-year-old post. I haven't looked at
Usenet in more years than I can count. But I browsed a bit, and here in
triangle.radio I saw this message.

Now, I"m sure you've been waiting eagerly for the last 26+ years
wondering if I ever bagged TO4E. There at the end of the TO4E run, I
was tuning PSK on 15m. An FY called CQ a few times. I called him, and
then I saw ANOTHER trace on the waterfall. I was indignant--that FY was
MINE!

After a few seconds of quiet, I said to the interloper "guess he doesn't
hear either of us." That other op was at TO4E and I worked HIM instead
of the FY, so that was a pretty good deal.

It's fun to see these old messages--good old AB4VJ, Terry--who changed
his call to NN4NN, which on CW sounds like a Latin dance beat. :-)
Terry, are you still around here?

I'm still here in the triangle; I've had long periods of inactivity but
I've got a 6m yagi and a 12m GP up, with plans for a all-band HF antenna
soon.

Things are different here 26.x years later, eh? Bill, K4WGE, is now SK,
but AF4YN got his license, so good news/bad news.
