Extras are needed to play zombies for an independent movie in Mebane.
Mebane, NC -- If you see people walking around one triad town with pale skin
and a dazed look, don't be alarmed, you are seeing zombies.
Local filmmakers will spend the next few months shooting Southern Undead in
Mebane. Most of the action happens at the Clay Street Tavern in downtown
Mebane.
Production is just getting started. The finished, edited project will be
done sometime in the winter. Then, the producers hope it will be distributed
and earn a cult-like following.
"At first, people would start coming to Mebane to see Mebane, and see where
we shot it and then maybe it would spread out to nationwide," said Phoenix
Mangus, producer.
The filmmakers want to shut down Clay Street in downtown Mebane on the night
of August 18. They plan to shoot a scene with as many zombies as possible.
First, they have to get approval from the city council. Some city leaders
opposed the movie at a recent meeting because they had concerns about how it
would affect downtown business owners. Some also worried about the original
working-title, Redneck Zombies of Mebane, and how it would portray the city.
The city council will vote on the issue August 6.
The producers of "Southern Dead" need extras for the big shoot. They are
looking for people to play zombies on August 18 from 8 p.m. to 3 a.m.
They need to know how many people plan to participate. For more information,
