The Triad MTB Ride List is an unaffiliated spin-off of Ian Joyce’s Triad Ride List and would not exist were it not for Ian’s tireless efforts to promote and maintain the list. Much like the Triad Ride List, the MTB List exists to help Piedmont Triad NC MTB cyclists, cyclocross riders, BMXers, unicyclists and anyone else that may not fit neatly into the road category share information about rides and topics of interest to the local community! We are here for EVERYONE! The list is not affiliated with any shop, club, team or business, though all are encouraged to participate!
List Etiquette
There are many members on the list. To avoid overloading members with email:
Stay on topic. This is a local cycling list. We emphasize local, because if you wish to discuss general cycling topics, there are plenty of places where this is welcome. Local topics are those that address rides (even those that aren't strictly local), cycling events and topics that are relevant to this mountain biking community. Naturally, exception is made for rides and discussion of locales such as Pisgah and Uwharrie, as mountain biking tends to spread itself a bit further in regards to event range.
Use reply-all sparingly or not at all. Only reply to the entire list if you specifically want to share your response with everyone on the list, which in time could be in excess of 1,000 recipients, much like the original Triad Ride List. Please be considerate of other subscribers.
Use restraint. Have a comment for a specific person? Email him or her directly.
Be nice. Respectful disagreement is fine. Flaming isn't and will get all participants tossed from the list. Don't complain; use the delete key.
Be thorough. If you post a ride, include all of the information that anyone on the list would need.
Everyone is encouraged to post about trail conditions, especially closings. If you discover that a trail is closed, but isn't noted as such elsewhere, please post to the list so that everyone is aware of the closure.
TRAIL CLOSURES: WE DO NOT ADVOCATE, CONDONE OR TOLERATE RIDING TRAILS THAT ARE CLOSED! ANYONE CAUGHT ENCOURAGING SUCH ACTS OR RIDING CLOSED TRAILS WILL BE BANNED FROM THE LIST! PLEASE RESPECT THE HARD WORK OF THOSE WHO ARE BUILDING AND MAINTAINING TRAILS, BOTH LOCALLY AND ELSEWHERE BY NOT RIDING THEM WHILE THEY ARE CLOSED!
Managing Your List Subscription
Anyone is free to view the list posts, but you must join the list in order to post to it, or to receive updates from the list. Please join and encourage others to do the same!
Members are responsible for managing their subscriptions to the Triad MTB Ride List. This includes joining, altering a membership, or leaving the list. These are simple tasks that require little in the way of Internet literacy. Links to the relevant commands are included in list emails. We know it's easier to make these tasks another person's problem, but is that really what you want to do?
If you have a problem with Google Groups that hinders you, send us (not the list) an email and we'll gladly help.
Commercial Content
Using the list to sell stuff is okay, within limits. Here are the rules:
Individuals are welcome to offer items for sale, as long as they:
List any item only once (no reminders, price reductions, etc.)
Include all relevant information, including condition, price, etc.
Any bike shop/bike-related business is welcome to publicize events (sales, clinics, etc), as long as:
They advertise an event only once
They include all relevant information
Have a question or want to request an exception? Email us.
A couple more notes about commercial content:
If you're a prospective buyer, reply directly to the seller. Always.
DO NOT forward commercial emails to the list. Never.
A Note for Event Ride Organizers & Clubs
Please coordinate your publicity efforts so you don't flood the list with duplicate emails. Here's what we recommend:
A save the date email
A reminder shortly before the event
Emails about last minute changes necessitated by weather or other factors
