📣 Volunteers Needed !! 📣
I am so happy to announce that the Greensboro Community Bike Shop & the Bike Library have successfully served TWO locations this month! My focus is the Bike Library at Barber Park and its wonderful volunteers. I want to thank everyone who has signed up through our link, shown up with impromptu help, and anyone who popped by out of curiosity! There's no way we could have covered both locations, except with your help! YOU are amazing!!!
Here's what we need:
Who: Bike Library Volunteers (two per shift or more)
Where: Barber Park, lower level
When: Sundays 12:30 PM to 2:30 PM --or-- 2 PM to 4 PM (or both!)
What is the library?: A place for kids and adults to borrow bikes for free from 1 to 4 PM every Sunday thru Oct, weather permitting!
This summer we are doing on-the-job-training each Sunday, so please join our happy crew of volunteers! Let us know you are coming through the link below:
Now, I want to show you a quick pic and story from yesterday's Bike Library day...
This is D.T. who strolled by from a local neighborhood. As he walked, he sang in a clear, beautiful tenor voice. The volunteers cheered him, and soon he came over to say hello and see what we were all about. "Would you like to borrow a bike today?" "No, no. I haven't been on a bike in decades!" But D.T. did accept an invitation to sit in the shade with us and drink some cold water. After a while he even joined in eating the wonderful food Fawzia had dropped off for lunch and we chatted. As he rose to leave, I said, "D.T., are you sure you wouldn't want to take a spin around the park on a bike? It's free and they say you never forget how!" To our utter surprise and delight, our new friend accepted! After a pass or two in front of the library to find his balance, D.T. went on to loop the park twice! I wish you could have seen the smile on his face as he zoomed down the big hill!
Yes, from toddlers to octogenarians, we make safe cycling more accessible to the people of Greensboro!
Come join us on Sunday!
