Hi,
The Raleigh Randos are hosting a "dart populaire" on July 18. Teams of 3-5 bikes from around the region will design 120km+ routes to converge on Saxapahaw for beer, fellowship, and music. It's a party you ride your bike to.
To participate:
1) convince 2-4 of your friends to bike to Saxapahaw with you
2) design a route. The way the event works, your group has to ride 25km in the last two hours. I suggest making a route with a long food stop for lunch and placing a stop with AC right before your "25km left" point, that way if you're ahead of schedule, you can be sheltered from the heat while you wait. My group's "25km left" spot will be at the Alamance Battleground visitor center, for instance.
3) y'all sign up with RUSA (only $30 and you get a very cool volunteer-produced quarterly magazine called "American Randonneur")
4) print out waivers, sign, take a photo, send photos to your team captain so they can send them off to Michael O'Connor, the RBA for Raleigh, at
y2b...@gmail.com. Keep the physical waivers and take them with you on July 18!
5) also have the captain send to
y2b...@gmail.com: names of riders, phone numbers of riders, RUSA #s of riders, home addresses of riders (optional), the team's route, and the team's name (optional)
At the conclusion of the event in Saxapahaw, we'll have a bar tab at Haw River Farmhouse Ales, and then at 6 there will be music featuring Omar Ruiz-Lopez (@fiddlemar) and Eric Hirsch (@erichirschmusic).
Riding from far away and worried about the heat? We will have a support car ready after 12pm in Saxapahaw and will send the driver's number out to captains and participants ahead of the event.
