Mary and Rick Hughes, Dale Brown, John Erickson, Woodie Andersen, Phil Kusiak, and I invite everyone who owns a bike and wants to ride with other cyclists to come out and ride with us on Labor Day, Monday, September 4, 2023, at 8:00 AM.

This ride is not directly associated with any club, organization or company.  I hope to see riders from the Greensboro Velo Club, the Suds and Duds Rides, Mayhem Cycling, Team Perpetual Motion, Major Taylor Cycling, Team Canterbury, CyclePaths, Kernersville Cycling Club, Burlington Velo Club, the Easy Riders Series, iCoffee Rides, Lindley Park Velo Club and any other group of cyclists.

I will post the starting location and routes later this week.  I will do my best to create routes of approximately the following distances: 12 miles, 28 miles, 40 miles and 63 miles.

There will be groups of cyclist riding together at many different paces: 12-13 mph, 14-15 mph, 16-17 mph, 18-19 mph and 20+ mph.  For safety, we hope to help EVERYONE find a group with which they can comfortably ride, so NO CYCLIST RIDES ALONE!

It would be great to have two ride leaders for every group of cyclists.  Woodie Andersen, Suzanne Pezick, Jim Slagle, Jeff Petrinitz, Felicia Higgs, Mary Hughes, Rick Hughes, Cornelia Johnson, Mark Johnson, Glenn Trent, Sheldon Herman, Phil Kusiak and Katie Woof have already offered to help.  There are a lot of safe, knowledgeable cyclists in the area, so please let me know if you would like to help lead a group of cyclists over a certain distance on Labor Day.

We are considering a couple different starting locations, but I wanted to get a preliminary post up so everyone can mark their calendars.

Labor Day Ride Email #2 - Location and Start Time Confirmation

The ride will start from Oden Brewing Company, 804 W Gate City Blvd, Greensboro, NC 27403.  There is a dirt lot next to Oden Brewing at 806 W. Gate City Blvd.  I encourage everyone to park at the dirt lot and then bring their bike up to the paved parking lot near the picnic tables to kick off the ride.

The owners of Oden, with some encouragement from Brian Carter, have agreed to open for us on Labor Day three hours early: 12:00 noon.  In addition, they are trying to get a food truck for us, so stick around after the ride as long as you want.  At a minimum we will have some watermelon, water and  gatorade to share.  Feel free to bring your own food and non-alcoholic drinks.

So more of us can finish closer to the same time,

The Metric Century/63 mile route will roll at 8:00 AM

The 40, 28 and 12 mile routes will roll at 9:00 AM

In addition to the 13 people who had previously offered to help lead/encourage groups of riders, Mark Lang, Curt Cess, and Tom Noll have also stepped up to the plate.

If you plan to ride the 63 mile route and would be willing to help lead a group, please let me know.

Since the ride is next Monday, the routes will not be posted till the end of the week.  Most likely Saturday.
Please make sure you download the routes into your bike computer or print a cue sheet from Ride With GPS before the ride, or ride with someone who knows where they are going:)  Cue sheets will not be available at the start of the ride and there will be no markings on the roads.
Fortunately we will have at least ten different groups riding over the three longer routes at paces between 12 and 21 mph, and two wonderful people  who will to Sweep the 12 mile route.

Please let me know if you have any questions or want to help in any way on September 4.

Lastly, I would appreciate everyone posting this information in their Strava, Facebook and Email groups so everyone has the opportunity to ride with a group on Labor Day.
