Greetings,
Our August meeting is next Tuesday, the 7th at 7pm at the Creative Center.
Here's some information on our presenter:
Budd Wilkins is an independent film scholar and Staff Critic for Slant Magazine, a pop cultural criticism magazine based in New York City. Budd obtained his master's degree in liberal studies with a concentration in film studies from UNC-Greensboro in 2010. He began writing his own blog devoted exclusively to film, buddwilkins.com, in March 2011, and his first published piece was in The Acidemic Journal of Film and Media on Lars von Trier's Antichrist. In August, 2011, he became a contributor to Slant, and was promoted to Staff Critic in January, 2012. He covered the 2012 Full Frame Documentary Festival for Slant in Durham, NC and the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, also for Slant, in Cannes, France. Budd was selected to write a chapter for the upcoming anthology Global Fear: International Horror Directors to be published by Intellect Press, Ltd. and distributed by The University of Chicago Press. He also writes film criticism for the local e-zine Avant Greensboro and has a regular spot on their radio show, Avant on Air, on WUAG 103.1. He has reviewed over 100 films for Slant and has interviewed actor/writer/director Albert Brooks, documentarian Frederick Wiseman, and cult film director Lucky McKee. He has also programmed film classes for UNC-G and Elon University School of Law, and was a judge for the recent 2012 Greensboro 48 Hour Film Project.
