Subject: DeDanadhan are the Champions of 18th AID CRICKET CUP -- FALL 2014.
Dear Teams,
The
AID Duke-RTP volunteer team thank you all for your continued
support and participation in the 18th AID Cricket Cup conducted on
Saturday, November 22nd. We earnestly apologize for not sharing this news earlier. Request all captains to share this with their teams. Hope by now you may have checked with your employers if they have a matching donation program, if they do your contribution and participation can lead to double the support. Please let us know if you need further info.
We had 16 teams participate in the tournament
despite the freezing conditions! This was extreme cricket at its best.
The tournament was a great success and generated much needed funds to
support and sustain crucial grassroots projects in India.
The
games were played in great spirit by all the players with some
remarkable individual and team performances. Sukesh from
Seven-and-a-half Saturns won the Best-Bowler award of the tournament for
picking up 7 wickets in the tournament. He had stiff competition from
Vijay (DeDanadhan) and Amit (Hunters 4) with 5 wickets and 4 wickets
respectively.
Sameer
of Cheetahs won the Best-Batsman trophy for scoring 107 runs, blasting
numerous boundaries at an astounding rate. Ravi (DeDanadhan) scored 89
and Rahul (7.5 Saturns) scored 82 to rank in the Top 3. There were
numerous other commendable individual performances and it was great to
see every team stepping up their game.
The
final between DeDanadhan and Seven-and-a-half Saturns was a fitting
finale to the tournament. DeDanadhan were the ultimate tournament
champions; holding their nerve against a tremendous effort from the
Saturns and defending a mediocre target of 40 runs. Raj of
Seven-and-a-half Saturns earned the Man-of-the-Match award for top
scoring with 21 and taking his team to the brink of victory. It is a
testament to the quality of cricket when the game hangs in the balance
throughout and is decided only at the very last ball.
We
are also very grateful for the generous support from our sponsors Signal Life Sciences, Spice Bazaar, Little India, Cricmax, RB Realty and Apna Bazaar. The
delicious food at the tournament was donated by Tower Indian
Restaurant, Spicy & Curry, Inchin Bamboo Garden and Dale's Indian Restaurant.
Cricmax provided the balls and stumps for the tournament as well as a Spartan MS Dhoni Bullet bat
for the charity raffle. Mr. Suman Basetty (Cheetahs) had the winning
raffle and was the lucky new owner of the prized bat.
We
sincerely appreciate all the teams for accommodating the changes in the
schedule to allow the tournament to be completed within one day across
four fields. It was a logistical challenge for the organizing/volunteer
team and would not have been possible without the understanding and
cooperation of the teams. We are also tremendously grateful to everyone
that helped with the various tasks including umpiring and scoring,
making the tea and cooking some of the delicious food.
Once
again, we would like to thank all of you for making this another
successful event. We look forward to seeing you again next year for
more games, more food and more fun.
We wish you all a wonderful holiday season ahead. Change Starts with ONE, Be the ONE ..
