Hello,

I'm new to TRex and am want to learn the features of the software. I followed the tutorial here : http://trex-tgn.cisco.com/trex/doc/trex_vm_manual.html, to install it on my laptop and understand the working. However, I'm having issues with running it on VirtualBox, the sample TRex applications get stuck whenever I try running them.

Is there any other good starting point to understand how TRex works? Once I figure that out, I want to set it up on a Xeon server and try sending traffic from it to test my applications. It would be great if anyone could suggest a way for me to start understanding and exploring TRex. Thanks a lot in advance!

Regards,
Aparna

I use v1.62 as that is the version used in the tutorial that I followed. This is the step where I get stuck :

[trex@localhost v1.62]$ sudo ./t-rex-64 -f cap2/dns.yaml -d 100 -m 1 --nc
Starting TRex 1.62 please wait ...
found configuration file at /etc/trex_cfg.yaml

The VM configuration on VB is as specified in the TRex VM that is given in the link.

VB gets stuck after finding the config file at /etc/trex_cfg.yaml and doesn't proceed further.

Could you add -v 7 and send the output?
Another option to take the latest version v2.00

Thanks
Hanoh

-v 7 is resulting in VB crashing. I'm now trying it on another system. In the meantime, is there a TRex VM .ova file with v2.00? This is where I found the link to v1.62 : http://trex-tgn.cisco.com/trex/

Use the same OVA just wget the new TRex package. See manual how to do this.

The latest package also has the OVA with TRex v1.62. Is there any other way to start off learning TRex on my laptop with the latest version v2.00?

Thanks for the links, I found these links already but I was looking for a v2.00 OVA file, instead of using the v2.00 package with the v1.62 OVA. I will try the v1.62 OVA file over the latest package and see if that makes a difference.

Thanks once again.

Hi,

The OVA is just a clone of VM with Linux that has TRex unpacked inside it :)

Another option is to use dev-net sandbox, it gives you access to host with TRex and Router for use/try:
Currently there are some issues with certificate, hope they will be resolved shortly.
We will write cheatsheet how to use this sandbox soon.

Thanks,
Yaroslav.
