OK, new user to linux and i'm trying to install slackware 7 on a 486dx2,
32meg ram and 450meg hd ... anyway, go through the entire setup fine and
install packages 'a' and 'n' and all seems to go well; set my password
and then it says all's good simply exit and reboot via ctrl-alt-del ...
sounds good to me i say, so i do it. When the i reboot it goes through
the memory check, blah blah blah, and then tells me 'No Operating
System' ... can you believe that!!! So i says to myself, 'i made the
boot disks, i'll just try one of those ... i boot from the 'Lilo
Bootdisk' i made and my computer says ' INVALID BOOT DISK - Press any
key when ready', so i pop in the 'Simple Bootdisk' and it seems to be
going well, i see:
'Loading ...............................................'
and then:
0200
AX: 0212
BX: 7000
CX: 5001
DX: 0000
in a continous loop, so i says 'geez, that's a problem' :-)
Anyway, anybody have any suggestions for me as this linux 'stuff' is all
new to me ... and i don't have a cd-rom in the machine to attempt the
install again without having to swap 20-odd floppies to get it set up
again.
puleeeeeze help a linux newbie ;-)
thanks
cory
