For the SDG 15.3.1 Indicator (status), I am confused about the Degradation (baseline) and Improving (baseline). If an area was degraded as the baseline, then wouldn't the 2023 status be either degrading (recent or persistent), stable, or improving (recent or persistent)? I've looked through the methodology but couldn't find an explanation of this. What is the definition of an area that is degrading (baseline), but is not currently degrading, stable or improving?

Thanks,
Rebecca

Hi Rebecca,
Please download the document “Addendum to the Good Practice Guidance: SDG Indicator 15.3.1 – Proportion of Land that is Degraded over Total Land Area (Version 2.0)” available here:
https://www.unccd.int/resources/manuals-and-guides/addendum-good-practice-guidance-sdg-indicator-1531-proportion-land
You can find the explanation behind these metrics on pages 19–26.
Additionally, the PRAIS4 Reporting Manual provides further details and can be accessed at:
https://prais4-reporting-manual.unccd.int/en/latest/index.html
Cheers,
Franklin
