We hope that this message finds everyone safe and healthy throughout the unprecedented changes in the world due to the novel COVID-19 pandemic. The Trends.Earth team are safely working from home to support our users.

Announcements:

We are pleased to announce that the Trends.Earth plugin for QGISv3 is now available in the QGIS plugin repository. Please download QGIS version 3.10.3 or greater to access the latest upgrades to the Trends.Earth plugin. Instructions for installing the plugin in QGIS v3 are available on our website: http://trends.earth/docs/en/documentation/settings.html

If you have not used QGIS v3, there are new features that include improvements in performance, processing in background, map layouts, raster styling, and viewing multiple canvases at the same time. More new features are highlighted here: https://gisgeography.com/qgis-3/

With these enhancements to the software, come enhancements in the user experience of our plugin. Along with the upgrade to QGISv3, the Trends.Earth team has improved the performance of the plugin as well. For experienced users, you may note the following improvements in the plugin:

  • The outputs are consolidated so that users only need to enter in the root of the file name to store both the spatial and tabular outputs for reporting on SDG 15.3.1.
  • The ingestion of high resolution data is now optimized so that importing (e.g. custom land cover) and running SDG 15.3.1 processes much faster locally.
  • Datasets for 2016-2018 (e.g. for land cover) are now available through the plugin
  • For ingestion of high resolution data, there is an advanced settings page (available for 64-bit operating systems only, Python 3.7). To install, “Advanced settings” page under the settings tool. On that page there are two settings 1) enabling debug messages, and 2) enabling binaries. The ability to enable debug messages isn’t worth mentioning in the email, but the binaries setting is as it will be important for people using large datasets.

If you encounter any issues upgrading to the latest version of Trends.Earth, we recommend you manually remove the old version of Trends.Earth first. To manually remove the plugin, see the instructions here: http://trends.earth/docs/en/about/faq.html#how-do-i-uninstall-the-plugin

Hello Fernando,

Please try to uninstall the plugin using the instructions here: http://trends.earth/docs/en/about/faq.html#how-do-i-uninstall-the-plugin and reinstall the plugin again http://trends.earth/docs/en/documentation/settings.html. If this does not resolve the python error, please send us the version of QGIS that you are using.

Regards,
Trends.Earth Team
