This isn't about any specific brand, but SOOOOO many quilt patterns don't have sizes that actually fit on a bed, and I find it so frustrating. I don't mind patterns that clearly are just for a wall hanging, but I find it super annoying when the sizes are "baby," "small throw," and "large throw." I mean, you've already done the work of doing the math for different sizes, why not do the math for the quilts that can actually be used for the main thing quilts are used for? I love a good throw blanket as much as the next person, but I'd at least like the *option* of making a full-sized quilt, especially since most of what I am paying for in a pattern *is* the math- I don't want to have to pay $15 for the pattern only to have to do an extra hour of work figuring out how to size it up.

An excellent way for beginners to dip their toes into making king-size quilts is by taking a queen-size quilt pattern and adding borders to it to measure up to a king-size. These borders can be a solid piece of fabric, piano keys, HST (half square triangles), flying geese, etc.

If you are lucky enough to have a sewing machine that can fit into a quilting frame, you may wonder if you can quilt a large king-size quilt on a 10-foot frame. This may be up for debate, but I believe you can do pretty much anything with a bit of imagination.

That will give you plenty of drapes for any king-size bed. Interwoven uses strips of fabric that can be bold, solid colors like the example quilt, or you could use just two colors for a more chic two-tone vibe.

There is no denying the fact that a Carpenter Star quilt looks impressive as a bed covering. With this pattern, you can make a king-size carpenter star quilt that will bring your bedroom decor to the next level. The pattern includes dimensions for a regular king bed and a California king.

Free king-size quilt patterns are hard to come by, so I got pretty excited when I found this lovely pattern. It has a super simple construction, with the entire quilt top made using one size square in a color-specific layout.

I'm a pretty novice quilter- I've made a couple quilts, but it's been a decade since I've touched my sewing machine. I want to make a quilt for my king-sized bed that is big enough to drape down the sides, without having to add a bunch of extra borders to the pattern.

For the remainder of the cutting for this quilted sham tutorial, you'll need to refer to your copy of the Starling pattern. Referring to page 6, for the standard-size sham, we're going to make two Block B units exactly how they are shown in the diagram so that they mirror each other. For the king-size sham (not pictured in the tutorial), you'll make two Block As instead.

Now it's time to baste! Using the basting method of your choice, baste one quilt sandwich for your sham front using your Starling pillow top and 28" x 34" (standard) or 28" x 44" (king) pieces of batting and lining fabric.

Then, baste two more quilt sandwiches for the back envelope panels using (1) 19" x 25" piece of background fabric and (1) 22" x 28" piece each of batting and lining fabric for each sandwich for the standard size and (1) 24" x 25" piece of background fabric and (1) 27" x 28" piece each of batting and lining fabric for each sandwich for the king size.

If your pillow game is lacking, this quilted shams tutorial will help you create the perfect addition to any bedroom. And if you've already made a Starling quilt, you almost HAVE to make a coordinating set to match!

As for size, other steps to take, pre-wash the fabric (yes, I am saying to pre-wash!) and be sure to not over-stretch the front relative to the backing when preparing to quilt. Not doing either of these can cause the quilt to be smaller when it is finished.

Beautiful pattern! I'm a new quilt maker and have been looking and looking for my next project. I really want to make a king size quilt for our bed. Does this pattern include dimensions to fit a king size bed?

This quilt is beautiful and I want to try this as my first quilt, making it for an elderly nursing home patient but can you tell me how to make it throw size? How many blocks and how many rows across the top and down?
Thanks so much!

Quilts are made from a patchwork top layer, a middle layer of warm batting, and a bottom layer of backing fabric. The quilt patterns you see in the list below will show you how to cut and sew beautiful quilt tops.

Precut fabric: Some quilt patterns are designed to use bundles of precut fabric, called charm squares, jelly rolls, and layer cakes. Using precut fabric will save you a lot of time that you would have spent preparing and cutting fabric.

The pattern comes together quickly and makes a lap-sized quilt. I am always amazed at how quickly quilts come together when you use precut fabric like a jelly roll. With this pattern, you can make a quilt top in an afternoon!

This pattern promises a complete quilt in 1 hour! It makes a complicated-looking quilt with a very simple trick. It uses a very unique piecing method involving unpicking seams (on purpose!). It's a great way to use scraps, and it's so fun to see how the different patterns emerge as you go.

Sometimes the simplest designs can be the most striking. In this diagonal stripe quilt, long strips of fabric are cut, pieced, and sewn in random order. They come together by chance in striking diagonal lines. The result is a stunning mix of precise lines, subtle color shifts, and random pops of neon!

Like a lot of the traditional quilting blocks, the Plus Quilt works with the classic nine-patch pattern, alternating dark and light colors to make a plus sign. The pattern itself is really versatile, with the opportunity to use just a few alternating fabric patterns or a ton of scraps.

Check out this dramatic chevron-inspired quilt pattern. It comes with a full tutorial to walk you through every step in the process. And, it includes directions to make different sizes of quilts -- from crib size to king size.

I was just given a throw quilt with 7 pieces; a pattern pieces against a solid side. The pattern pieces, look like stairs some a larger pieces (3), 2 medium size pieces and then 2 small square. What is this pattern called?

I have never quilted before and want to make a quilt for a queen size bed. I want to make it out of shirts and jeans that belonged to my fiancée, which passed away in June. I will have to hand sew it. Can you please help me with a very simple pattern? He was the kind of man that loved simpler things and this will give me another way to keep him with me.

When I thought up this quilt pattern, I was inspired by the traditional English Paper Piecing (EPP) design. I wanted a classic geometric design featuring hexagons and triangles. I wanted it to be insanely versatile. I wanted it to be able to be bold and geometric or look scrappy using fat quarters, or scrappy because it was made using actual scraps. I wanted to be able to use fat quarters and yardage together. I wanted to be able to make even a king sized quilt. I wanted this quilt to be everything and anything. I am extremely pleased with the result, I hope you feel like you could make anything with this pattern.

The Gondor Quilt is the second quilt pattern in the Tammi Quilt Collection. The Tammi Quilt Collection is a series of machine sewn patterns inspired by English Paper Piecing (EPP). This quilt pattern has no EPP, FPP, or y-seams. It is entirely machine sewn.

There are four sizes included for this quilt: baby, throw, twin, & king. The blocks do not get bigger when the quilt size increases, you get more blocks. This means that if want to make the quilt slightly smaller or larger it is very easy to do so.

My first quilt pattern ever released is the Lunar Phases quilt, which happened as a result of personally wanting a moon phases quilt and being unable to find a pattern for one. Today, I sew and design quilts in my loft apartment. I currently have more quilt patterns being designed, and even more quilt projects in the work.

This beautiful quilt was the start of our six month bedroom makeover. After making the quilt, I made the headboard, painted the room, redid an old auction chair, and added some fun new accessories. The space feels completely different, and it has become my favorite room in the house!

Shannon, two rag quilts in a week!? You are amazing!! I used regular cotton fabrics. I was just thinking the other day I should wash my quilt. I think I only have maybe three times since I made it!? It might be gross, but the fabric and bright colors have held up so much and hidden dirt! The flannel one I made my son is one of my favs too. I love how flannel sews. I bet your quilts are gorgeous! XO, Erica

I think I might try this, except I would like to use denim squares from all the old jeans I have lying around for the backing. I would piece, sew and finish the quilt as you did. My Gram would use a blanket in the middle of her quilts instead of batting.

The shapes of this quilt are simple half square triangles. Its really more about the value differences between your fabrics, as a lot of my quilt patterns are. I give you tips and links to helpful info inside the pattern, walking you through the basic process of dividing your fabrics.
