List,

let me announce a small application that thanks to great help of Takamiya-san is now one of the examples in the Trema source code tree:

https://github.com/trema/trema/tree/develop/src/examples/transparent_firewall

The application implements a simple IPv4 firewall (two simple firewalls, to be precise) and is intended as a proof that such firewall management is a great use case for OpenFlow.

One of the implemented firewalls makes an interesting case in that it installs around 25000 flows. This requires either a software-based OFS (for instance, works on MikroTik 750 series) or a powerful hardware OFS (NEC PF). Besides the amount of flows it is interesting to watch how much time the loading takes and how much bandwidth the loaded OFS can process.

The application should look good at exhibition stands or serve as a base for more advanced firewall implementations.
