I've been hunting for so long for the right program for my uncle and I am fairly certain I have found it in Trelby. The main ones I was considering for him are Ulysses III, Highland, Fade In and Trelby -- mostly I narrowed it down to these four for their simple UI although Fade In is probably too much for his needs and is definitely too busy-looking. He is currently using an old version of Final Draft on an ancient iMac with a tiny screen and surprisingly he has already cranked out three screenplays in a short time despite being a two-finger typer. He has been waiting so long for a new computer because I recommended against buying a Windows computer and encouraged him to wait for a new Mac mini, but Apple is taking its sweet time to produce anything new these days. If he was to buy a newer Mac I was going to recommend Highland which seems a very good choice for it's $30 price, possibly Ulysses III ($45). But honestly, I think he would be just as happy (perhaps much more happy) with a much cheaper new PC computer that I could rig with Ubuntu and Trelby -- awesome to know he will be able to import his FD formatted screenplays into Trelby.
If it's not already possible to do in Trelby, I have a feature request... could you please add a view option to type white or light-coloured text on a black/dark background -- this is so much easier on the eyes when you're at a computer screen for many hours. I've attached a picture example of this in Highland. Also, it's hard to tell from the screenshots on the website -- is it possible in Trelby's full-screen mode to show only the writer's content, i.e. without the name, scene, page details showing at top and the extra blank spaces flanking the margins? If not, that is my second feature request.
Thank you Osku and Anil for creating and continuing to develop such a lovely program.
