I found a way in which to get dual dialogue to work, which was to create a blank space in character map, and use that to paste (system) into the document, to get the text to wrap around correctly with the correct spacing in the dialogue's.  Under start->Programs->accessories->system tools!

I dunno, even being new to Trelby basic function are not complex.   I used to use Microsoft word, and set all my tabs.  I would tab to center for dialogue, or to the description line, or character / dialogue, or what ever.  If I needed to break dialogue to bring in a second speaker and weave them together.it was slightly slower but not rocket science. Just the stops.  Yes, Trelby is a boon, if it works.   I can't find the action / scene description buttons.  I am missing a couple of important function which is impeding progress. In concept it is wonderful but ..

When I was writing a lot,  final draft was out.  But I never looked at it, I was used to formating my own work, using the stops and spacing with ms word.  i did it the old fashioned way... I learned my format. I had a great tech book, that only made suggestions on how to format various actions. .  My work was placed as i wrote it.  I am currently on three projects with two other writer, and  this program is  not with me.  I DO believe in it, I WANT it to work. but so far, either I go back to ms Word, or  get this fixed.

My requests go unanswered.  My mind and brain embraces the wonders of technology. and the more freedom of thought, not worrying about format   The manual does not address replacing lost functions. No menu where they reside.  Maybe my nomenclature is not program friendly, but, what was was a small irritation, is becoming something of  lost faith in what I entered into with a warm embrace and love in my heart...   Yes, love..  I embrace the software as I would a woman of, exquisite ways; her sublime mind, my savior, Yes!  She who would place the Salve of technical love, poured on, and flowing into the wounds and scars of unrealized deliverance and spiritual balance. The rawness of my emotions flayed open by hope, empty in it's  waning form.. I still await this savior, my girl Trelby, may she bring the peace and calm of the Promise, and yet realize we yet live and love within the mastery of our minds creation. Selah! - - - - - -   ok,, so I played a bit, waits out the boredom. :)

Why is it that this mailing list is so weird all of a sudden? First the random dude abusing the maintainers, now this... :D

Makes me pine for the days when there was only one email every couple of months complaining about the lack of copy-paste functionality (even though it was clearly in the menu)...

Alex, you are a math and physics guy.. I respect that. But I am an industry professional, and in my experience, one success does not guarantee you will be successful in all disciplines. If I were young, or very inexperienced, you are who I easily see can break the creative heart of another.  Congrats, I won't stay. You foster the attitude of knowledge, but you are NOT an Entertainment professional. You are hurtful, and ego driven. A day in the life..

Gee Alex, you asked why is this getting so weird?

Lets examine what I actually did say.  I mentioned I formatted with Microsoft Word. I in a stylistic, sort of over the top manner I wrote of my desire to fix an issue with Trelby. Real or perceived, that was my issue.  I took license to express in more colorful manner, pretty harmless.   Did I attack you?  In the following statement what you said, I find that rather scary.   You said:

Yes, no challenge to the program, no interest in what may be a weak point,  Did you consider what I was actually meaning?  Then you make no suggestions to help a new member along?  Shame on who  'Yearn' for uneventful days?  Quiet non challenging day?

Such attitude is why programs and creative projects fail.  To achieve a solid and competitive project REQUIRES it challenged, and tested, and stretched to it's limits.

Is that not that is the cornerstone of any creative comprehensive script?

Especially one that can cut through all the crap of production requirements?  Sorry  bud, I wrote that because DO have a very limited grasp of Trelby; and two, because as a writer I wanted to stimulate responses in order to learn more about  this.  What I don't need, and I think many do, is a better understanding of how the industry actually works. I did not expect to be ridiculed because I spoke reality.  Ok, I played a bit with some prose, but read it, it is honest, not attacking,it is asking.  I saw what I thought may be a flaw.  Maybe I am blind to something.  Instead of being critical, why not help? Engage in a dialogue and see what I am about?   Is  that not why the forum is here?

Professionally, I  well know of what i speak.  I was one of those people who the writer and at  times the producer had to get past.  I was on the development side, and at times, represented the 'Money.'   My reviews were  the deciding factor.  It is natural any writer who loves his or her own work may feel slighted, or hurt by a rejection when all of their friends in the industry compliment it.  The harsh reality is, there are thousands of writers, and only one slot (figuratively) at a time.  Unless a concept is sooo strong and interesting the producer and director will work to further develop it, it is trashed.   A buyers market, they  know piles of scripts keep arriving and one of them may be the one to ring the bell loudly.

How many projects arrive each day to a valid company?  Ten, twenty, or more? Certainly the requests to submit are pouring in.  Who has time to read them? Chances are the persons you need to see your project are scheduling projects they may have bought a year or two or even ten years back.

Then who covers your project?  They may or may not even grasp or see your vision. You well may have an award winning script, but it also takes the right person to understand and see your vision.

Read on to see a painful example.

I sat in a room with a full package. We had a distribution agreement pending.  Pre sale funds fulfilled when we shot some exteriors in a certain country.  That was necessary to access ancillary funds subject to a country's treaty with respect to film production. We had a great script written by an academy award winning writer/director, the director himself, a solid budget, the two main stars letters of intent. and partial distribution, and pre-sale agreements.  We had a slam dunk..

Even the week leading up to that meeting was amazing, I was so high on what looked like a real thing was happening. The president of the company called me three times checking we did not go to any other company.  He also contacted a major female star, who loved the script and project. She wanted to meet immediately.

On the day of the meeting I did not even consider any issues.  My partner, was very chill about it all.  He also saw a deal. A rather large one.  When we arrived, the pres, the vice pres of the company greeted us.  I thought it very warming and interesting they spoke while walking backwards as we went to a private room.  They brought coffee, and and the vibe was high.  The boss, his head of production, and PM, were eager and ready to jump in.   They spoke of locations, production style, the approach to the main character, a (biopic), they were 100 percent committed. .. that is until the boss mentioned the name of the female he thought would fit.

The boss exclaimed how happy they were with such a great script, and they also said there is an other directer who wanted to invest, even finance the production if he can direct. He went on to say he called a certain female star, who they thought was a better casting than our choice. I could see it go either way. I did not see any problem, but I also noticed, each time the boss spoke of who they wanted, my partner grew cold and less receptive. He did not hear the boss offer a  compromise.  They were not turned off... My guy even did not seem to be bothered by the specter of a director being brought in. He began to say he did not want this particular female star near his script. I attempted to sway him, but to no avail. He was very dark about about this actress, and dogmatically, refused to talk any more.

I called his manager, she was livid. She said I was should have told him to shut up...I said how do I shut up a multiple academy award winner, who is a king in his right? He pulled rank on all us, and no one saw it coming. To this day we don't know what was on his mind.

By suddenly not listening, the enthusiasm of the company, drained away.

So, I offended you with a bit of prose? Read my response again. I was speaking honestly. I can understand if you want a 'good ol boy' club. And not be disagreed with, have at it. I can cite several ways a deal can go, or fail, and and make you the decision maker. How would you do? Can you be responsible for the actual careers of others?

What if I were timid, new, young, and you treated me the same? I can easily see you discourage many out of an insecure need to dominate.

How well can you do? Do you think you are inspirational? A leader who can bring someone to a higher level? In case you forget, that is the foundation of this forum. With your attitudes, I can easily go back to ms word. But my real experience is as a professional, and if you want to be babied, this forum is not for me. I am good with honest criticism at me. That was not what you folks did, was it?
