NOTE: All future posts with regard to the Audio Drama stream will be

Two quick points:
Audio Drama is definitely a candidate for one of the Days because its
limited production requirements and short production lead times make
it so that a production put into the concept stage NOW should be
completed BEFORE December.
How about a competition? ScriptFrenzy <http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/eng/
user/301953> is coming up in April and I'd like to announce a
competition for prospective scriptwriters in conjunction with
established fan production companies to get their work produced. I'm
not sure how we would work this but how about this ...

All completed scripts would be submitted to established Directors who
would choose one each BUT the writers would have to agree to re-write
to the producer's requirements.
The Directors would commit to producing one audio drama episode each
to be completed by December. Auditions, casting, organisation, sound-
editing and all other aspects of production would be their
responsibility. The directors would be required to take on an "intern"
as a trainee director
The Twelve Trek Days of Christmas, 2009 would release the completed
Audio Dramas online as an Audio Drama Festival, in the same vein as a
Film festival. Our responsibility would be promotion, webhosting and
delivery including the compilation of all productions into a CD that
would be available as an ISO image downloadable via P2P complete with
a web interface, embedded media player, pdf scripts, Jewel case and
label artwork.
DELIVERABLE:
- A downloadable CD with high quality sound files that can be played
on your loungeroom sound system
- Low quality mp3 files available for download or streaming from the
Day Page. NOTE: each production would have its own sub-page in the
same way we did the eBooks.
- Fanzine released featuring the productions with interviews of the
writers, directors and actors with a focus on what they did, how they
did it, their previous work and future plans
- The release would be an online event
- Writer's would get produced
- Directors would get a choice of scripts
- Would-be directors would get training by an experienced director
POSSIBILITIES
- Event streamed via internet radio? Live to air on Public radio?
- if we put together a presentation, could we interest Trek Alumni in
guest-starring in a production of their choice? They would be
encouraged to act as mentors to the fan Voice Actors

This is something I intend to email to every producer/director who has
produced during 2008/9 (and a few who came close) It will probably be
my major involvement for 2009 but I will still be organising the
second string presents and be the defacto organiser of streams that
have no organiser.

Greetings! You are getting this email because you have, in the past,
been either the director or producer of a Star Trek audio drama. Some,

to you today in my capacity as the organiser of the audio drama stream
of the Twelve Trek Days of Christmas which is a non-profit / free-
download fan production event that will be in its third year in 2009.

For 2009 we are arranging an online Star Trek audio drama festival, in
the same vein as a film festival, which will have three levels:
Masters, Journeymen and Apprentices.
MASTERS
All production Groups who have produced an episode during 2009 will
have a webpage dedicated to them which will be a web-magazine style
retrospective of their work during the year. This will also be the
basis of an article in a fanzine to be ePublished on Star Trek audio
dramas in 2009. We would like to arrange to have one of your episodes
streamed on this page with a link to your homepage for downloading
with interviews by our Podcaster Guest of Honour and a trailer
featured on our free download CD.
Your level of involvement in this is basically just giving us
permission to stream since this is a piece of citizen reporting and,
in the spirit of fairness and comprehensiveness, ALL groups who have
released during the year will be included. Groups who choose not to
give permission to stream will still have a page but it will be
without an example of their work. Groups are encouraged to use this as
an opportunity to release promotional material of their own - posters
and signed scripts for example.
JOURNEYMEN
The Twelve Trek Days of Christmas is calling for submissions of work
to be released on the audio drama day. Virtually the only stipulation
is that the content is Star Trek although it could be of any era or
style - from the Original Series to the New Movie, from young teens to
adult. It could be a three-part trilogy or a ten minute vignette, a
musical, a comedy or a dark, brooding tragedy - surprise us!
The purpose here is for producers to "strut their stuff". You could be
a total tyro who has never released a Trek audio drama before or an
established group that does a "bottle-show" for the festival - please
note we will not accept teasers or trailers in this category. This
could be your chance to put out a pilot of a series concept (cliff-
hangers are welcome!), to resurrect a series in hiatus as a one-off or
simply to have some creative fun with no plans beyond the moment!
Journeymen will be given access to the Podcaster Guest of Honour and
their work will be included in full on the Free Download CD
APPRENTICES
The medium of audio drama is expanding at an exponential rate and the
Twelve Trek Days of Christmas would like to trial a new concept in
encouraging beginners to learn from the experience of those who have
already produced works in the field. In summary the system should run
like this ...
- The Twelve Trek Days of Christmas will be calling for submissions of
treatments on most major audio drama and writing forums but most
prominently on ScriptFrenzy <http://www.scriptfrenzy.org/>. Note: The
treatment or story idea, belongs to the author
- Submitted treatments will be supplied to participating producers
under a non-disclosure agreement. Producers may bid for treatments
that they believe have promise. Bids will be passed on to authors who
will accept the bid they are most impressed with. Note: producers are
only committing at this stage to working with the writer to help them
turn their script into one that can be produced as an audio drama. In
return the producer will get first option at producing the show but
they are NOT committing to producing it. The completed script remains
the property of the writer but the producer will be given Production
Mentor credit.
- Completed scripts will either be optioned by the Production Mentors
or passed on to participating director / producers for production bids
under non-disclosure agreements. Authors need to note that their work

sounds good to me.... being a writer I can't help but be interested, but being swamped with projects I might sit it out. But it sounds like a very good present for contributors as well as recipients...

Quick hello to Waldo from Giant Gnome productions - producer of Star

Waldo, one thing that might intrigue the fan fic writers on the list
is the post from Nick (their writer) on the Dimensions webpage, "I’m
also working on The Trek Project, an attempt to bring short fan
fiction and audio drama in the realm of Trek together… we’re starting
very small and seeing how it goes. The first episode should grace us
by May. These are one-off stories which dive into a specific area of
the Trek universe and take us for a small adventure."
An anthology style? Individual vignettes?
I like the idea of short productions - that was what I was aiming at
with Tales Of Death and Honour - it gives you a lot of flexibility for
how they could be released. I was going for the idea of offering them
to an existing podcast to enhance their production and still be
released as a series anthology as well later in the year... like
Christmas!
